As per a staff member, the fire broke out in an AC unit of a room on the first floor. No one was inside the room when the incident occurred. Fans, almirah doors and wall paintings were partially damaged. While staff doused the blaze, fire tenders were also rushed to the spot. TNS Board of Directors okays Sec 53 general housing scheme brochure Dushyant Singh Pundir CONVERSION CHARGES FOR SEC 63 FLATS Tribune News Service Chandigarh, May 9 Providing a major relief to nearly 2,100 allottees of the general housing scheme in Sector 63, the Board of Directors of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) today gave approval to the conversion of units from leasehold to freehold. An official said the conversion would be allowed as per the terms and conditions of the Conversion Policy of the UT Administration. As per the policy, an allottee of a two-bedroom flat will have to pay nearly Rs 5 lakh, while that of a three-bedroom flat around Rs 8 lakh. The CHB had launched the general housing scheme in Sector 63 in 2008. Of the total 2,108 flats, 336 are three-bedroom, 888 two-bedroom and 564 one-bedroom units, besides 320 EWS flats. The CHB had waived the five-year lock-in period for the transfer of ownership of the leasehold flats in January 2017. The board also approved brochure for the self-financing housing scheme-2023 on a freehold basis in Sector 53. The police recovered the skeletal remains from the furnace and sent these for forensic examination. PHOTO: PRADEEP TEWARI MC meet on May13 for nod to new waste plant Sandeep Rana Tribune News Service Chandigarh, May 9 Nearly three years after the Municipal Corporation took over the waste processing plant from Jaypee Group, it will hold a special House meeting on May 13 to approve the setting up of a new plant. Subsequently, the civic body will float a tender for hiring of an agency to install new machinery and run the plant. The move comes after the UT Administration accepted the recommendations of the CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), a consultant hired by the MC, to set up an integrated waste processing plant in Sector 25. Following an inspection in August 2020, the IIT-Roorkee had observed all machines at the Sector 25 plant had 550 MT SOLID WASTE GENERATED DAILY ■ City generates 550 MT of solid waste per day, of which 350 MT is wet and remaining 200 MT dry waste ■ MC says it is processing 100% of dry waste at the upgraded facility taken over from Jaypee Group in Sector 25 ■ Of 350 MT wet garbage, only 120 MT is being processed at the plant, necessitating the need for a new facility ■ After approval, civic body will float a tender for hiring of an agency to install new machinery and run the plant already completed their lifespan.
