Investigating officer (IO) Salinder Singh said the accused has been identified as Veeru of Vajid Pur village in Ferozepur. He had been wanted in a case of drug peddling. The IO said the police have also arrested PO Kulwant Singh, a resident of Punia village, who was wanted for allegedly obstructing a public way. OC CASH STOLEN FROM GURDWARA Phagwara: Some unidentified thieves barged into the historic Mata Ganga Ji Mao Sahib Gurdwara and decamped with cash after breaking the coin box. Mohan Singh, the gurdwara manager, told the police that the thieves had barged into the religious place by breaking the windowpanes and stealing cash from the coin box. The police suspect the victim’s son-inlaw of killing her. The deceased woman, identified as Jasvir Kaur, was 55 years old. Her son and both her daughters live overseas. A Sultanpur Lodhi-based man has been arrested by the Kapurthala police for hurting religious sentiments at the gurdwara. The man has been identified as Lakhbir Singh, resident of Saroopwal village in Sultanpur Lodhi. The incident took place in the gurdwara at 7 pm on Thursday. After offering his evening prayers at the gurdwara, a Sikh turbaned man (Lakhbir Singh) with a handkerchief tied across his face approached the podium where the granthis were sitting. Mukerian, May 19 A youth, Gaurav Anand, was allegedly beaten with sticks by some assailants on Monday in Bhangala town. He succumbed to his injuries today. The police registered an FIR against the accused, but they haven’t been arrested yet. The family members of the deceased and village residents protested today against the police for not arresting the accused. They held a sit-in from 9 am to 4 pm on Jalandhar-Pathankot road on the National Highway at Bhangala Adda.The blockade was lifted after giving a 24hour ultimatum to the police for the arrest of the accused. Rinku and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jaspreet Singh today visited the newly constructed airport terminal to review the progress on the project. They directed the officials to finish the pending civil work in a time-bound manner so that the local residents can enjoy ultra-modern aviation facilities at the airport. During their visit to the airport terminal, they reviewed the pace of construction of the link taxi track. The MP and the DC were informed that work had already been awarded at the cost of Rs 4.80 crore, which has now been started after permission from the air force authority. The duo asked the Adampur Land Acquisition Collector to speed up the land acquisition procedure in Damunda and Kandola villages. The approach road was being widened by four-laning at a cost of Rs 41.4 crore to provide passengers with smooth access to the Adampur Airport. They directed officials of the PWD to complete the ongoing construction of the 4-km stretch by the end of this month.
