Under the leadership of Kapurthala SSP Rajpal Singh Sandhu, officials have planned to organize weekly matches in villages identified as drug hotspots. The inaugural exhibition match of volleyball was held in Latianwala village on Monday night. The national and international players from the Punjab police enthusiastically participated in the event, encouraging village youngsters to embrace sports as a means of personal growth and development. Despite its small population of approximately 100 to 120 households, the village has witnessed nearly 250 NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases over the past decade, along with the recovery of significant quantities of narcotics”, he added. “With this initiative, we aim to motivate youngsters towards sports and keep them away from drugs,” stated DSP Babandeep Singh, further emphasising that village sarpanches, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other social workers were actively being encouraged to support the police force in eradicating the drug menace at the grassroots level. Since July last year when the portal was launched, till May 29, as many as 1,68,915 complaints were registered and 92,794 have already been disposed of. In Jalandhar, a total of 9,242 complaints were registered, of which 4,050 have been disposed of. The portal is for lodging complaints related to crime against women and children, economic and traffic offences, cyber fraud, property disputes, drug and alcohol. The complainants would earlier get hassled as in several cases their complaints would not get registered due to some reason or the other. In some cases, people would say that the police personnel didn’t listen to them, act upon and register their complaints. Now, no police personnel posted even in village or tehsil can evade his duty, as a strict watch is kept on their working online. If someone fails to do their job, they are held accountable. Show-cause notice As per the information, show-cause notices have already been issued to more than nine police personnel and four gazetted police officers in the state for lapses in disposing of complaints that are registered with the Public Grievances Division. If he finds any loophole in the investigation, he ensures that he reaches out to the police official and the complainant personally to ensure that the investigation is being carried out in a transparent manner. “The aim is to provide a transparent and accountable police grievance system to the utmost satisfaction of the people. It is a 360-degree software which ensures public grievances are heard at every level. It’s a great intervention and will be a gamechanger,” the ADGP said. According to the information received, Minhas allegedly acquired empty bottles of Pappy Van whiskey through online channels, proceeded to fill them with counterfeit liquor, resealed them, and sold them through auctions. His fraudulent activities reportedly generated a profit of $30,000 between May 2018 and February 2019 (as mentioned in court orders, a copy of which is in possession of The Tribune). Subsequently, the victims who purchased the liquor lodged complaints with the Pappy Van company after realising they had MADE A PROFIT OF $30,000 Sandeep Minhas allegedly acquired empty bottles of Pappy Van whiskey through online channels, proceeded to fill them with counterfeit liquor, resealed them, and sold them through auctions. His fraudulent activities reportedly generated a profit of $30,000 between May 2018 and February 2019 been sold counterfeit products. In response, the company initiated legal proceedings against dealers selling the whiskey, leading to Minhas’ arrest by the police. Following a court trial, Minhas was found guilty, and he has been ordered to pay $35,000 to compensate the victims of his scam for their losses. c m y b Jalandhar, May30 Due to the efforts of MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, three Punjabi youths who had fallen victim to fake travel agents promising them a better future in America have finally returned home after being stranded in Turkey for an extended period. Two of the youths had embarked on their journey with dreams of America, while the other had set his sights on Greece, only to be ensnared by the deceitful traps set by fraudulent agents. Their ordeal in foreign lands came to light when their families sought the assistance of Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, who promptly wrote a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs. On May 25, Amritpal Singh from Tibba village in Kapurthala district, Navjot Singh from Bhawanipur, and Happy Singh from Sarhali Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewal with the rescued youths in Sultanpur Lodhi.
