According to sources, nearly two dozen rounds were fired from both sides. The suspects suffered bullet wounds in the incident. Those arrested have been identified as Gurpreet Singh of Johal Dhai Wala village and Harpreet Singh of Bantara village, both in Tarn Taran. The suspects were involved in the loot of Rs 40.8 lakh from an employee of a petrol station at Bhatmajra village of Fatehgarh Sahib on May 29, claimed the police. This will be followed by a special Municipal Corporation House meeting on June 6, which will take a final call on the issue. The meeting, to be chaired by UT Adviser Dharam Pal, will for the first time be attended by Mayor Anup Gupta, besides councillors Gurbax Rawat (Congress), Hardeep Singh (SAD) and Kuldeep Dhalor (AAP). At the last MC House meeting, the agenda was rejected by councillors, who demanded representation of elected representatives at the meeting. On June 6, the civic body will decide whether continued on page 2 Chandigarh, June 1 Amid concerns raised by auto dealers over likely halting of registration of petrol two-wheelers from July, UT Adviser Dharam Pal on Thursday said they will review the Electric Vehicle (EV) Halting of petrol 2-wheeler registrations from July Policy-2022 and restriction on registration of the non-EV vehicles in the city. Non-electric two-wheelers may be hitting the end of the road in the city with their registration likely to be stopped from July as the UT Transport Department is on course to achieving the annual target fixed in its EV policy by June-end. “We will review the EV Policy and the restriction on the registration of the non-EV vehicles in the city. We will take a decision after taking all stakeholders on board. We will have to calculate when the non-EV vehicles registration can be stopped,” said the Adviser. As per the target for this fiscal, nearly 6,200 petrol twowheelers can be registered in the city. After this, their registration will be stopped and only electric two-wheelers will be registered. So far this fiscal, 3,700 two-wheelers have been registered and only 2,500 more can now be registered. — TNS
