Several residents from various sections of Ward number 23, including Urban Estate Phase 1 (Jamalpur), HM Colony, Labour Colony, Rajiv Gandhi Colony and localities on Metro Road, have raised the issue of presence of stray cattle in these areas, seeking the civic body’s attention. Some parts of the ward have also witnessed issues such as poorly maintained roads with potholes, lack of progress in the development of parks and green belts, occasional instances of contaminated water supply and choked sewers. In a tragic road mishap, a motorcyclist died while a pillion rider suffered serious injuries after one of the the tyres of the motorcycle burst and the bike crashed into the roadside railing on the national highway in Khanna. The man who was riding the bike fell into a drain after the collision while the person riding pillion fell on the road facing serious injuries. The deceased has been identified as Deepak of the Gaushala road area in Khanna. Four friends from Khanna on two motorcycles had gone to pay obeisance at Dera Baba Murad Shah in Nakodar on Thursday. While they were Ludhiana, August 25 A newborn boy who was found abandoned in Bhattian here on Wednesday breathed his last at the Civil Hospital. SHO, Salem Tabri, SI Harjit Singh, said on Wednesday, some passers-by saw the infant and informed the police control room. Following which, the baby was shifted to the Civil Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries today. The child was said to be two days’ old. The SHO said a probe was launched to identify persons who dumped the infant and a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC. The youth riding pillion fell onto the service lane, while Deepak fell into the drain. Deepak’s injured friend said passers-by made efforts to save Deepak when he fell into the drain. They took him out and rushed him to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. He was pursuing BBA at Gulzar College. In the other incident, a motorcyclist was hit by a rashly driven truck near the Gill canal on Thursday. He died on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Jatinder Singh (19) of Shimlapuri. On August 24, Jatinder along with his friend Gurbachan Singh of Gill Colony, Lohara, was heading towards his home on a TVS Jupiter scooter (bearing registration No. PB 10 GP 4588). When they reached near the Gill canal, a rashly driven truck rammed into their motorcycle. His nephew died on the spot due to severe head injuries while the deceased’s friend suffered serious injuries. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment. He also urged them to support the authorities in management of solid waste and stop the use of banned plastic carry bags and singleuse plastic items. c m y b Minor violates 15-yr-old, held Driver killed as truck falls into drain on Dehlon-Sahnewal road Tribune News Service Ludhiana, August 25 A 15-year-old girl was sexually abused by a 17-year-old boy at Didar Nagar in Lohara. The suspect was arrested by the police. After registering a case, the police took the boy, a neighbour of the victim, in custody as per the law. The police charged the suspect under relevant sections of the IPC and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The victim’s mother in a statement to the police said on August 22, when her daughter was alone in the house, the boy entered their house and forcibly dragged her daughter inside a room and raped her. He also threatened her daughter of dire consequences if she reveals about the incident to anyone. In the evening, when she returned home her daughter was looking depressed. When she asked the reason, she told her the matter. ASI Gurbaz Singh said after registering a case, the boy was also arrested and further investigation was launched in the case. TRIBUNE PHOTO Our Correspondent Mandi Ahmedgarh, Aug 25 The driver of a truck carrying gravel was killed after he lost control over his vehicle and it fell into a drain near Ghawaddi village on the Dehlon-Sahnewal road early this morning. The deceased was identified as Sukhpal Singh of Butahri village in Ludhiana district. Though the mishap occurred around 4 am, the wreckage of the vehicle was removed after rescue opera- tion in the afternoon. Dehlon SHO Paramdeep Singh said the truck (bearing registration number BP 07 S9950) had fallen into the Ghawadi drain on the Dehlon-Sahnewal road early on Friday morning and the police had started a rescue operation after getting information. The police had to be extra cautious during rescue operation as nobody, including the owner of the truck, was sure about the number of occupants in the driver’s chamber of the vehicle. Though the exact reason behind the mishap was yet to be ascertained, it is believed that the driver had lost control over the wheels due to the presence of potholes on the road near the drain bridge. Railing of the bridge had also smashed completely in the incident. The deceased was the lone member of a small peasant family. The police handed over the body to relatives of the deceased after completing inquest proceedings.
