The suspect has been identified as Sarabjit, alias Sabo, a resident of Shankar village falling under the Nakodar Sadar police station. Station House Officer (SHO) Mohinder Pal said 90 intoxicant tablets were recovered from his possession. A case under Sections 22(b), 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the suspect. OC TWO POS LAND IN POLICE NET Phagwara: The Bilga police have arrested two proclaimed offenders (POs), who were absconding for the past few months. Investigating Officer Anwar Masih said the accused had been identified as Jasvir Singh, alias Babu, a resident of Sango Wal village, and Gurwinder Singh, alias Ginda, a resident of Bilga village. The IO said Babu was wanted in a case of selling illicit liquor and Ginda was wanted in a case of violating government orders. OC WOMAN KILLED IN ROAD MISHAP Phagwara: A woman was killed on the spot when a speeding vehicle hit her Activa on the Phillaur-Nurmahal road on Sunday. The deceased, identified as Soma Rani, a resident of Phillaur, was going to attend a religious congregation. The vehicle driver managed to flee after hitting the Activa scooter. The police have registered a case against the vehicle owner and handed over the body to the family members after the postmortem examination. OC BIKER FLEES WITH NRI’S PURSE Phagwara: An unidentified motorcycle-borne robber snatched a purse containing cash worth ~50,000, besides 1,000 euro and valuable documents from an Italybased NRI woman, Rajwinder Kaur, near Sanjivini Hospital in SBS Nagar, Phagwara, on Sunday. The victim was going in a rickshaw to meet her relatives. The police have registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC. OC MOBILE FOUND IN CENTRAL JAIL Hoshiarpur: The Central Jail Administration recovered a mobile phone during the search of a barrack. Assistant Superintendent Chaman Lal said during the search of barrack No. 22, a mobile phone was recovered from prisoner Raj Kumar, a resident of Todarpur. On his complaint, the police have registered a case against the accused. OC WOMAN AMONG 2 SMUGGLERS HELD Hoshiarpur: The district police have arrested two smugglers, including a woman, and recovered a huge quantity of narcotics from them. According to information, the Chabbewal police seized a large number of sedative injections from Graman Kaur, a resident of Sarhalan Kalan, at a naka laid in the area. The Tanda police arrested a drug smuggler and recovered 547 grams of intoxicant powder from him. The suspect has been identified as Pannu Singh, a resident of Jaja. OC Girl selling ‘chitta’ held; 15-gm heroin, ~1L drug money seized Her video went viral recently; Mother, brother also in police dragnet Aparna Banerji Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 4 The police today arrested a Kapurthala girl whose video weighing and selling chitta (heroin) across a counter went viral a few days ago. The Kapurthala police said the family of the girl had a history of selling drugs. The 19-year-old girl, hailing from Badshahpur village, was arrested from Professors Colony near Badshahpur by the CIA staff today. The police recovered 15 grams of heroin and ~1 lakh drug money from her possession. Her brother Gurjant Singh was arrested on September 1. Her mother Raj Kaur, alias Rani, was arrested by the ABOUT THE VIDEO In the video, which surfaced on September 1, the young girl could be seen weighing a small white pouch on an electric weighing scale and passing it across to someone. After the video went viral, the Kapurthala police traced her to be of Badshahpur village in Kapurthala. Subhanpur police yesterday. The girl and her mother were arrested by the CIA staff and the Subhanpur police, respectively.” Subhanpur SHO Hardeep Singh said: “The girl’s family has been selling drugs since long. Several cases were also registered against them. Raj Kaur’s husband also had several FIRs against him for selling drugs. Elderly person loses cell phone to snatchers Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 4 There seems to be no letup in rising crime incidents here. A day after robbers strike at a chemist shop here, a snatching incident was reported from the vicinity of the Basti Bawa Khel police station here late last night. The incident took place just a stone’s throw away from the police station. An elderly man fell prey to three Activa-borne miscreants. The victim, Bachan Lal, was returning home when the incident took place. Bachan Lal said while he was walking along with his grandson, one of the suspects lifted the mobile phone from his shirt’s pocket. The suspect fled the spot with two of his associates who were waiting for him on the scooter at some distance. The victim raised an alarm, following which local shopkeepers and BJP leader Pardeep Khullar rushed to the spot. They said if the police failed to arrest the suspects involved in both cases, including the robbery at chemist shop, by tomorrow, they would hold a protest. The shopkeepers said this was the fourth crime incident in the recent past. “Repeated incidents show that criminals seem to have no fear of law enforcement agencies,” they added. They urged the police to bolster security measures and arrest the suspects responsible for these incidents. “Failure to do so may force us to take to streets,” the shopkeepers said. The incident, which sent shockwaves through the local community, was reportedly driven by the man’s frustration over the delayed justice in the case of the late singer. While speaking to the media, the vehicle owner explained his motives behind the act. He expressed his desire to have his voice heard by the media and the government, urging them to take swift action in the Moosewala case. He said though over a year had passed since the singer’s tragic demise, his killers remained at large. “In today’s act, I am representing the sentiments of Punjab’s youth who demand justice in the Moosewala case”, he stated.
