TNS Tribune News Service Chandigarh, September 6 Breaking the eight-year tie with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) proved a “wise” decision for Jatinder Singh of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) as he left a huge impact on this year’s Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) elections. Just before the elections, Jatinder joined the NSUI on August 29 in the presence of Congress national in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar. On August 30, he was chosen the presidential face of the party. He brought 74 former ABVP supporters with him. However, on September 1, the group courted controversies after one of its alliance partners, the Indian National Students’ Organisation (INSO), decided to part ways after an alleged scuffle. Despite this setback, the party managed to make a strong ground to win the elections. A resident of Sector 45 reported that a caller, posing as a private bank’s executive, made her a preapproved loan offer (Rs 5 lakh) on credit card. The caller managed to get an OTP from her to access her internet banking account. With the help of the resident’s bank details, the fraudster got approved a loan of Rs 5 lakh, which was credited to the victim’s account, and later withdrew Rs 4.92 lakh. After five years, the NSUI again won the presidential seat with its candidate, Jatinder Singh, polling a record 3,002 votes to defeat his CYSS rival by a margin of 603 votes and ABVP’s candidate by 820 votes. The NUSI had won the PUCSC presidential election in 2013, 2014, 2017.
