Vehicle owner Harish Kumar, a resident of Kurukshetra, resides in Professors’ Colony and works as an assistant manager in the bank. He went to the bank after parking the motorbike bearing registration number HR7Y6207. When he returned from work in the evening, he found the motorcycle missing. The police have registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC. OC NAKODAR MAN ENDS HIS LIFE Phagwara: A Nakodar resident committed suicide on Saturday. Investigating officer (IO) Mandeep Singh said the deceased had been identified as Happy, a resident of Mohala Guru Nanak Pura, Nakodar. Mamta, mother of the deceased, told the police that her son ended his life by consuming some poisonous substance. The police handed over the body to the family after post-mortem examination. Balvir Kaur, a resident of Chak Bahmania village, told the police that the suspects carrying weapons barged into her house on September 8. They ransacked the house and stole materials. A case under Sections 451, 457, 427 and 380 of the IPC has been registered. OC MAN NABBED ON THEFT CHARGE Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a person on the charge of stealing a scooter and other items from a house. Investigating officer (IO) Kashmir Singh said the suspects had been identified as Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, a resident of Nangal Ambian village. Navdeep Kaur, a resident of the same village, complained to the police that the suspects barged into her house on the night of September 3 and stole a scooter and other items. A case under Sections 457 (lurking house-trespass) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the IPC has been registered against the suspects. The police recovered stolen scooter from his possession. The car bearing registration number DL-12CC6814 was reportedly being driven at a high speed. Sub-Inspector Gurinderpal Singh rushed to the spot after getting information. He sent the injured persons to the Civil Hospital, Phagwara. Senior Medical Officer Dr Lehmber Ram said one of the injured persons was declared dead on arrival by the Emergency Medical Officer, while others were referred to Jalandhar owing to their critical condition. Police swing into action, launch helpline to check drug peddling LAW GATE CLASH Ashok Kaura Phagwara, September 10 The police have swung into action after a violent clash took place among students belonging to various educational institutions at the Law Gate, Phagwara, in which a juice shop owner was killed and another student injured on Friday night. Suspecting the use of intoxicants which led to the clash, the police have launched a special ‘drug awareness drive’ . Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Gill along with Deputy Superintendent of the Police Jaspreet Singh held a meeting with students and people residing around Law Gate, Phagwara. The police officers interacted with students and appealed to the residents to co-operate in curbing the drug menace. The SP said that a WhatsApp group, namely, ‘Law Gate Union’ has been introduced in which cops and students have been included and anyone can inform about the activities related to drug peddling in their areas and their identity will be kept secret. The sole motive of the helpline was to identify smugglers and take action against them so that drug peddling could be wiped out completely from society, he said. Jalandhar, September 10 While the district registered a rapid rise in cases of dengue early on, the number of patients in Jalandhar has now stabilised. The district currently has 53 dengue cases with a new case reported on Saturday. Until July end, the district had six dengue cases. By August 31, dengue cases in Jalandhar had reached 48. The maximum number of dengue cases was registered in August but it appears to have reached a plateau in the last fortnight. Of the total 53 cases as of now, 22 are in rural areas and 31 in urban. The Health Department has been spraying larvicide and distributing chlorine tablets among residents. A woman, identified as Disho, was arrested with seven grams of heroin from Sadar Banga. The police said they laid a naka for checking suspicious persons. They saw a woman coming towards them. After seeing the police, she got scared and changed her way. She also threw a packet on the roadside. “On suspicion, we checked the polythene bag. During checking, the police recovered heroin from the bag,” the police said. A person, identified as Paramjeet Singh, was arrested with 25 grams of heroin from Rahon. The police said the suspect was arrested during a checking in the area. “The suspect had kept the heroin in a polythene bag,” he said. Mystery shrouds 40-yr-old woman’s death, probe on Jalandhar, September 10 A 40-year-old woman died under mysterious circumstances at Baba Budha Ji Nagar in Rama Mandi here last night. The woman, identified as Priya, along with her husband, had shifted to a rented accommodation here three days ago. Her husband, who runs clothing business and often remained out of city for work, was not at home on Saturday. The woman was reportedly alone at the house at the time of the incident, the police said. Dakoha Chowki in-charge Madan Singh said: “The woman was found dead at her house. The police have not been able to contact her husband. We are trying to contact him on his mobile phone.
