Most schools are functioning as before, but a few are still bearing the brunt of the deluge. The Government Primary School, Mundi Cholian, is one such example. The students of the school are studying in the Government Middle School at the same village. The student strength of the school is 70. At present, the primary school is not in a condition to hold classes because mud and sludge has accumulated on the premises. The swings installed for children are broken. A math park specially made for students is also in ruins. It would be unsafe for students to attend classes in the school. The school staff has started cleaning the school premises but it will take long before the situation turns to normal. “We want students to study in a safe environment. The middle school is the best option for primary students. Earlier, we were teaching students in someone’s house,” said Ram Lubaya, head teacher of the Government Primary School, Mundi Cholian. Water has accumulated on the premises of the Government Primary School, Mundi Shehrian. The classes are being held in at a student’s home. The situation is same at the Government Primary School, Dhakka Basti. Five youths loot salon Two test positive for dengue, case tally hits 63 owner near PAP complex Tribune News Service Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 15 Despite round-the-clock security around the PAP complex here, five youths waylaid a salon owner and looted his valuables late last evening at the nearby busy intersection. Shadab, who runs a salon in Guru Gobind Singh Avenue, had reportedly closed his shop and was crossing the PAP chowk in his Hyundai car (bearing registration No. PB-08-EM8404) when the incident took place. His car was hit by a Bolero from the backside. “When he came out of the car, three youths attacked him with sharp weapons, snatched his gold chain and Rs 20,000 cash that he was carrying back home. They even took away his car keys and fled towards the Ludhiana side,” Shahrukh, the victim’s elder brother said. Shadab has been admitted to the Civil Hospital where he is undergoing treatment. ASI Ramesh Kumar said the victim’s statement was yet to be recorded. He said it seemed more like an accident and fight case. However, his brother Shahrukh told the police that there were five youths in the car, who were chasing his brother, since he left the salon. “The rear side of the car has been damaged. Some eyewitnesses told me that the assailants continued to attack my brother even when they tried to save him,” Shahrukh said while indicating that it was a case of targeted attack and looting. Jalandhar, September 15 With the tally of dengue cases in district around 52 till the first week of September, the number of patients, who contracted the disease, has now risen to 63. In all, 110 patients in Jalandhar have tested positive for dengue of which 47 belong to other places in the state. Of the 63 dengue cases in the district, 36 are in the urban and 27 in the rural areas. Two people tested positive for dengue today which took the tally of patients, who contracted the disease, to 63. Compared to the surge of dengue cases in the periphery, the cases have been under control so far in the district. Dengue larvae were found at 29 places in the district on Friday which were destroyed by 127campsforAyushman health cards from Sep 17 Jalandhar, September 15 To enrol maximum number of people under the Ayushman Bharat-Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana, the district administration would hold 127 camps in various blocks during fortnightly Ayushman Bhava campaign throughout the district from September 17 to October 2. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vishesh Sarangal said in the Ayushman Aapke Dwar component of the campaign, families eligible for health insurance cards would be registered in the camps and cards would also be issued to them. He said the Health Department had already prepared a roadmap of the camps and shared it with all community and primary health centres concerned. He said out of 127 camps, 29 camps would be held in Kartarpur block, 22 in Jamsher Khas block, 17 in Kala Bakra block, 16 in Lohian block, 10 in Adampur and Bara Pind blocks respectively, eight in Shankar block, six in Mehatpur blocks, five in Bilga block, three in Nurmahal block and one in Phillaur block. In all, dengue larvae have been found in 1,181 houses till now, of which 886 are in the urban and 295 in the rural areas. A total of 2,65,798 houses in Jalandhar district have been surveyed for dengue by the Health Department so far of which 64,414 are in the urban and 2,01,384 in the rural areas. Of these, 3,508 houses were surveyed today that include 611 in the urban and 2,867 in the rural areas. So far, 1,759 samples had been tested for dengue in the district of which 34 were tested today. Meanwhile, 65 denguerelated challans and 93 challan notices have been issued in the district till now. Phagwara, September 15 The Nakodar city police have arrested a person on the charge of stealing a motorcycle. The drive was started by officials of the building branch of the corporation today morning. The demolition drive continued till evening. Unauthorised colonies at Paragour and Bulandpur were demolished by the MC. Besides, four unauthorised commercial shops were sealed in the Dakoha area. Also, unauthorised commercial constructions were demolished on the Dhilwan road and three buildings were demolished on the Old Hoshiarpur road. Officials said a total of six illegal shops were razed on the Kotla road. Officials of the MC have started taking strict action against illegal and unauthorised buildings and shops. Notices are also being sent to owners of illegal commercial buildings. The MC has started the drive against illegal and unauthorised constructions after a long time. Jalandhar, September 15 Upon maiden visit to the city since his appointment, Punjab Youth Congress chief Mohit Mohindra launched the new party programme — ‘Booth jodo, youth jodo’ — at the Congress Bhawan here on Friday. Mohindra said that there were 29,000 booths across Punjab. He said that five volunteers had been appointed for each of these booths for launching a massive online membership drive. “The drive has been started in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections,” he said. “I have been visiting each Lok Sabha constituency to start the drive. Today, we started the campaign in Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur,” said Mohindra. “I have already visited seven Parliamentary constituencies and the remaining six Punjab Youth Congress chief Mohit Mohindra with participants during the launch of a programme in Jalandhar on Friday. Vishaljit Singh, SP (Investigation), said on Friday that a Sarai Amanat Khan police party arrested Mangal Singh Manga, a resident of Dauke village, with 100 gm of heroin. The Harike police led by SHO Sub-Inspector Kewal Singh arrested Gurvel Singh Golu and recovered 55 gm of heroin from his possession. “The suspects have been booked under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act by the respective police stations,” the SP said.
