They were received and welcomed by officials of the MC. A discussion was held on the functioning of the Greater Visakhapatnam and Amritsar MCs, funds and grants received from the Centre and state governments for development works on the occasion. Apart from this, discussion was held on revenue resources and income of different departments. Greater Municipal corporation staff honours the Mayor and councillors of Greater Visakhapatnam in Amritsar. Visakhapatnam MC Mayor Hari Venkata Kumari and Deputy Mayor Sridhar said that the area under their corporation’s jurisdiction was large as compared to Amritsar. As Visakhapat- nam was a most populous city of Andhra Pradesh, development projects were undertaken with grants from the Centre and state governments, she said. The income of Greater Visakha- patnam MC was also used for development, she said. She said that Punjab was known for hospitality. Greater Visakhapatnam MC councillors also appreciated city food. Tarn Taran:Satnam Singh of Nagoke village lost ~5 lakh in an online fraud on May 29. The swindler was identified as Samit Ranjan Paramanik of West Bengal, who fraudulently withdrew ~5 lakh from Satnam’s bank account. The DSP, PBI, Economic Offences Cyber Crime, traced the suspect to West Bengal. The Verowal police registered a case against the suspect. OC established. Kuldeep Singh stated to the police that on September 5, he got Baldev Singh of Kaler village and Virsa Singh of Kotla Doom village admitted to the Lopoke Civil Hospital. The victim said he saw Gurlal Singh of Kotla Doom village and some unknown persons in the car. The victim said he saw another car stationed near Sohal Workshop. The car occupants, including Malkeet Singh of Kalianwala, were carrying weapons and they signalled him to stop his SUV. Sensing danger, he sped from the spot and turned towards Kohali village after which car occupants started firing at his vehicle. The victim said when he entered Kohali village to save himself the suspects fled from the spot. The police said call details and locations of the suspects were not found at the spot after which a case under Sections 307 and 34 of the IPC and Section 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against unidentified persons. — TNS Tarn Taran, September 16 The Tarn Taran CIA staff led by sub-inspector Balwinder Singh busted a seven-member gang having relations with across border smugglers. SSP Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said that five smugglers were arrested and two were absconding. The SSP said Rs 65.80 lakh drug money, a machine meant for counting currency notes and a motorcycle were seized from smugglers. The arrested smugglers were identified as Surjit Singh Ganda, Gurlal Singh, Hardeep Singh Mintu, Karamjit Singh and Viney, the SSP said. The woman in a live video levelled serious allegation of corruption and harassment of litigants visiting the SDM’s office for their revenue cases. The woman alleged that the SDM’s court was calling litigants on government holidays. Heated exchange ensued between the SDM and the woman. Other court-relat- ed issues and public grievances could not be addressed for more than an hour. The woman has appealed to the state government to take strict action against the SDM for the alleged mental harassment of the people. Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar said the woman’s utterances were against the law. He said further action would be taken after seeking legal opinion. Preetinder Singh, DSP , Bhikhiwind, said drone activity was noticed by the BSF personnel of Patti Palo post. A joint search operation was launched by the BSF and the Punjab Police to recover the drone. TRIBUNE PHOTO MC to set up fire station at Focal Point Tribune News Service Amritsar, September 16 On the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, a fire station would be set up by the Amritsar Municipal Corporation (MC) for the safety of the industrial area at the old Focal Point on Mehta Road. In a recent meeting with local industrialists, officebearers of industrialist associations demanded from the CM that a fire sta- tion should be set up at Focal Point for the safety of factories, mills and workers. The CM instructed officials of the MC to address the issue. MC Commissioner Rahul said two fire tenders had been permanently stationed at Focal Point on Mehta Road. Various Focal Point trader associations had been demanding fire station in their area for a long time. Rahul said an estimate of Rs 2.50 crore was prepared for constructing fire station building and the tendering process had started. The project would be implemented soon, he said. Kamal Dalmia, chairman, Focal Point Industries Association, and Sanjeev Khosla, an industrialist, thanked the government for fulfilling their demand for fire station. Residents claimed that door-to-door collection of garbage was irregular in their area. “The garbage collection service is irregular in the area. Residents throw waste on street corners, which keeps lying there for three to four days. There are no proper arrangements to maintain sanitation in the area. People dump construction debris on the roadside. The MC must ensure regular lifting of garbage in the area,” said Rakesh Dhawan, a resident of Lohgarh Gate. c m y b Amritsar, September 16 The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted an interim bail to Gautam Majithia, former law officer of the Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT), who was booked by the Vigilance Bureau (VB) under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act on July 4. The High Court directed Majithia to join investigations and furnish details of his moveable and immovable properties before the VB. The court also asked VB officials to appear before it on September 22. Earlier, the court of Addi- to release 20 per cent more compensation to him. He had approached then law officer Gautam, who had allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh from him, for releasing the compensation amount. Jatinder told the VB that Gautam allegedly took Rs 7 lakh from him for releasing the compensation. Jatinder said that he had 6.6 acres (20 bigha), which was acquired by the AIT on March 25, 2022. He said following a petition, the court directed to release 20 per cent more compensation to him. The case was registered after a video of Gautam allegedly taking bribe went viral on social media.
