TNS 3 HURT AS TRUCK HITS TWO BIKES Mohali: Three bikers were injured after a truck hit them from behind on the Dera BassiBarwala road on Saturday night. The victims, Sheeshpal (30) and Rinkle (27) of Barwala were on one bike, while Kaithal resident Anil (35) was on another motorcycle. The victims sustained injuries on head and hands. Sources said AAP would fight the Mayor’s post, while the Congress will contest the posts of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Both parties are likely to announce their alliance arrangement in a day or so, and subsequently withdraw nominations before the day of polling. “Our respective party high commands have okayed the alliance for the mayoral polls. However, for now, nothing has been decided about who will contest the LS poll from Chandigarh,” confirmed a senior Congress leader. The two parties collectively have 20 votes against the BJP’s 15 votes, including ex officio member, i.e. the city MP. The SAD has one councillor. The police said 13 persons were arrested for allegedly indulging in gambling at public places and smuggling liquor. Besides, a proclaimed offender and a man operating an illegal hookah bar were also arrested. While raiding Mob Club Bar as part of the operation, the police seized four hookahs for violation of Section 144 and registered a case against the operator under Section 188/269/270. According to the Weather Department, the city today recorded minimum temperature at 3.2°C, which is four degrees below normal. Before this, the coldest night was reported in 2017 when the minimum temperature plummeted to 2.4°C. Between 2017 and 2022, temperature higher than 3.2°C were reported. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature also dropped to 13.3°C, five degrees below normal, against 15.6°C recorded yesterday. There seems no respite from the foggy weather with the department predicting cloudy weather with dense fog over the next two days. Thereafter, it is likely to be clear sky with dense fog. Twentytwo flights were behind schedule, some of them by more than four hours, even as three departures — Delhi, Goa and Mum- bai — were cancelled. Till 9:30 am, no flight could land or take off from the airport. The first flight to arrive here was from Bengaluru, late by one and a half hours. A man was injured after his car plunged into Sukhna Choe while crossing a causeway sans railings in Baltana last night. The car driver was going to Chandigarh side when the vehicle plunged into the dry bed of the Sukhna choe. The car turned turtle. The driver managed to come out with the help of passers-by. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
