OC Two minors held for raping 15-yr-old girl Jalandhar, January 15 Two minor boys aged around 17 years have been apprehended for raping a 15-year-old girl in Ram Janaki Nagar, falling under the jurisdiction of the Division No. 1 police station. The incident, which took approximately a month ago, came to light after the victim’s parents filed a complaint with the police late last night. According to the complainants, their daughter was assaulted while delivering food in the vicinity. The suspects reportedly took her to a secluded location and took turns to rape her. They claimed that the suspects also filmed the incident and later blackmailed their daughter by threatening to make the video viral. Sukhbir Singh, SHO of the Division No. 1 police station, said they had received a complaint in this regard. He said a case had been registered under Section 376-D of the POCSO Act and Section 506 of the IPC. The duo was in police custody and would be transferred to a juvenile home. TRIBUNE PHOTO Cops crackdown on sale, use of Chinese kite string Tribune News Service Jalandhar, January 15 The Police Commissionerate, led by Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, initiated a drive against the sale of Chinese string, commonly known as China Dor, in wake of Makar Sankranti festival. In the past week alone, the police have seized a total of 110 gattu (kite rolls) of China Dor and registered cases against two sellers. CP Swapan Sharma emphasised the hazardous nature of these kite strings and highlighted their increased usage during the festival of Makar Sankranti, known for traditional kite flying. He underscored that the Punjab Government had officially banned the use of China Dor due to safety concerns, and the Police Commissionerate was committed to preventing its illegal sale. The deceased have been identified as Mohan Singh, his wife Rajwant Kaur (65) and their relative Sarabjit Kaur, aged between 25 and 30, all residents of Garden Colony. The trio went to the Amritsar airport to drop Sarabjit’s husband Prateek Singh who had to board a flight to the USA. Notably, Sarabjit and Prateek got married on December 25 last year. After getting information, cops from the Division Number 1 police station reached the spot and initiated investigations into the incident.
