Investigating officer (IO) Nirmal Singh said the suspect had been identified as Mohit, alias Datter, a resident of Chak Muglanni village. Kiranjit Kaur, wife of the deceased, had complained to the police that her husband Kulvinder Singh, along with his tractor, went for puddling (kaddu) the land taken on rent at Ladhe Wali-Rasul Pur village on July 1, 2023. The suspects also reached there and attacked him. The IO said a case under Sections 302 (murder), 341 (wrongful restraint), 148 and 149 (rioting) of the IPC was registered. OC PO LANDS IN POLICE NET Phagwara: The Bilga police have arrested a proclaimed offender on the charge of nonappearing in court. Station House Officer (SHO) Lakhvir Singh said the accused had been identified as Harjinder Singh, alias Raju, a resident of Nangal village in Phillaur. The SHO said Phillaur Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Sukhman Deep Singh had ordered that the accused had been declared a proclaimed offender in a case of cheating and should be booked under Section 174-A (nonappearance in response to a proclamation under Section 82 of the Act 2 of 1974). The SHO said a case was registered against the accused on October 27 last year. OC 3 of family held for murder bid Our Correspondent Phagwara, January 16 The Nakodar Sadar police have arrested three members of a family, including a woman, on the charge of attempting to murder, firing and rioting. Investigating officer (IO) Lovleen Kumar said the suspects had been identified as Harcharan Singh, a Phagwara: Two unidentified miscreants snatched ~22,000 from a person on Monday. The victim, Arashdeep Singh, told the police that two unidentified persons waylaid him at Mohalla Ravi Dass on Monday afternoon and snatched ~22,000 from him. Investigating officer Rajinder Pal Singh said a complaint had been received. OC INTOXICATING PILLS SEIZED Garhshankar: The police arrested a drug smuggler near the canal bridge on the Banga road and recovered 600 intoxicating pills from his possession. The suspect has been identified as Balveer Singh, alias Bira, a resident of Denowal Khurd village. According to information, the Garhshankar police laid a naka near the canal bridge on the Banga road. The police stopped Balveer on the basis of suspicion. During checking, the police recovered 600 intoxicating pills from his possession. The police have registered a case against the suspect under the NDPS Act. OC WOMAN DIES IN ROAD MISHAP Hoshiarpur: A woman was killed while another suffered injuries in a road accident near Mahilpur. According to information, Baljinder Kaur, a resident of Kangar village, along with two other women Preeti and Manjeet Kaur - was going on a scooter. When they reached near Haveli village, the scooter collided with a car. Baljinder died on the spot, while Manjeet suffered injuries in the mishap. The Mahilpur police have started investigations into the incident. OC Shankar Pulli on the night of September 3 last year night. He suffered serious injuries in the attack. The deceased has been identified as Lakhwinder Singh (40), a resident of Sadar Banga, Nawanshahr. The motorcycle he was riding was hit by a tractor trolley. His wife and six-year-old daughter, who were riding pillion, also suffered injuries in the mishap. In her statement to the police, Kamaljit Kaur, wife of the deceased, said: “We were returning home after meeting a relative around 6.30 pm. A tractor-trailer hit our bike. We fell on the road and my husband suffered head injuries. My daughter was also hurt in the mishap”. “We reached the hospital with the help of passersby. My husband succumbed to his injures,” she said. The police have registered a case under Sections 279, 337, 338, 304-A and 427 of the IPC against the tractor driver. In another case, a person suffered injuries in a road accident. In his statement to the police, Jujhar Singh said his father Kulwant Singh was driving a temp. A speeding car hit the tempo from behind. His father suffered injuries in the mishap. Notably, accidents due to rash driving are on the rise in Nawanshahr. In a majority of the cases, unidentified drivers are booked who flee after the mishap. Several incidents have been reported in the past where people have lost their lives. In the past two months, several FIRs related to rash driving have been filed. SGPC polls: Special camps for voter registration today Our Correspondent Phagwara, January 16 To enrol every eligible person as a voter for the SGPC polls, Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal today visited several villages and urged them to come forward for voter registration at the special camps to be organised at all gurdwaras of the district on January 17. Sarangal met people in Ghurka, Goraya, Mehsampur, Mau Sahib, Talwan, Jaggo Sangha, Sidham Mutsadi, Littran and Nakodar villages and the adjoining areas. He told them to avail of maximum benefit from the camps on January 17 in all gurdwaras. He said that Parkash Purab of Guru Gobind Singh falls on January 17 and devotees pay obeisance in a large number at gurdwaras on that day. The Deputy Commissioner said patwaris would remain present in all gurdwaras and collect voter registration forms. They would take enrolment forms individually from each person. The DC said patwaris had been instructed not to collect the forms in bulk. The forms would be made available to devotees and could also be downloaded from the administration’s portal jalandhar.nic.in. It may be mentioned here that the person has to be a Keshdhari Sikh. Those who trim or shave beard, smoke or drink alcohol cannot register themselves as a voter.
