A woman of Sector 28 alleged that her brother-in-law, Paras, a native of Nepal, quarrelled with her husband, Tilak Ram (41), on January 13. Tilak sustained injuries and was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, where he died. Thick fog has severely affected visibility, causing disruptions in the schedule of various trains. Anticipating delay, the railway authorities cancelled Kalka Shatabdi today. The Netaji Express (12311) reached here at 7 am — 4.30 hours behind its usual time of 2.35 am. The Pashchim Express (12925) was also late by 1 hour and 20 minutes. Kalka Shatabdi (12011) was cancelled today after it got delayed by 9 hours and 30 minutes yesterday. Yesterday, Kalka Shatabdi (12012), which departs from Chandigarh at 6.23 pm, left at 10.52 pm — late by 4 hours, and was subsequently cancelled today. Vande Bharat (22447) got delayed by an hour and arrived here at 9.46 am today. Yatin Arora, who had to wait for four hours at Chandigarh Railway Station for Kalka Shatabdi on Monday, said, “I did not expect train to come four hours late. RAVI KUMAR 12 flights cancelled, over 30 delayed Mohali, January 16 As many as 12 flights were cancelled and 31 delayed due to fog, low visibility and other reasons at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport here today. Only seven flights were on time according to the flight schedule. Five morning flights were cancelled, of which the intimation for three had been given beforehand. The Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) is now going to set up solar plants at around 4,000 government houses, which will have a capacity of about 12 MWp (megawatt peak). At present, solar plants have been installed at 600 houses. The Administration has also written to the governments of Haryana and Punjab in this regard. Earlier, the Administration had decided to install rooftop solar power plants on around 1,500 government houses located across the city. The UT Administration had set a target to achieve 75 MWp (Mega Watt Peak) generation by December, but failed to achieve it. At present, more than 63.59 MWp solar power capacity had been installed in the city. Among all Union Territories, the city tops the country in solar power generation. With the aim of developing the UT as a model solar city, the Administration has aimed at achieving a target of 100 MWp by 2025. Residents owning all sizes of plots, including marla houses, are eligible under the scheme. CREST has set a target to achieve 20MW capacity by installing rooftop solar power plants. The UT Administration had made it mandatory to install solar power plants in houses having area more than 500 yards. Government buildings, offices and educational institutions, where electricity load is over 30 kW, are required to install solar power plants of at least 2 kW. Three snatchers held, 12 mobiles recovered Tribune News Service Chandigarh, January 16 Three snatchers have been arrested by the UT police and stolen mobile phones recovered from them. The police claimed to have solved five cases of snatching with their arrest. Vinod Kumar of Sector 15 had reported that three motorcycle-borne persons snatched his phone near his house on January 11. He had managed to note down the registration number of the motorcycle. During investigation, a team, led by Inspector Malkit Singh, SHO of the Sector 11 police station, nabbed the suspects, identified as Akil, alias Mula (23); Vivek, alias Mota (23); and Gagandeep Singh, alias Gangu (23), all residents of Nayagaon, Mohali. They were arrested near Dhanas. The police said a total of 12 phones had been recovered from the suspects. “Three snatching cases registered at the Sector 11 police station and one each at the Sector 39 and Sector 3 police stations have been solved,” said a police official. The motorcycle used in the crime and a scooter, which was stolen from the city, have been recovered from them.
