The suspect has been identified as Lovpreet Singh, a resident of Bhundiyan village falling under the Bhog Pur police station. In her complaint to the Jalandhar SSP (Rural), Lovpreet’s wife Sonai, a resident of Mohalla Dhangara, Mehat Pur, said she was being tortured for dowry ever since the marriage solemnised around six months ago. Investigating officer Davinder Singh said a case under Section 498-A (torturing woman for dowry) had been registered against the suspect. The woman, a nurse by profession, took an auto to a Khambra-based church to celebrate Christmas on December 25 last year. Surinder Pal Dhogri, DSP (Detective), Jalandhar Rural, said the suspect had been identified as Prince, a resident of Model House. As per the police, the auto driver reportedly tried to target three more girls in the past, but could not succeed. Kuldeep Singh, former sarpanch of Tarar village, informed the police on December 26 last year that the body of an unidentified woman was lying on the roadside from Gadowali village to Tarar. After getting information, the Lambra police reached the spot and registered a case under Sections 302 and 201 on the IPC on December 26. These works include solid waste management, new roads, construction of boundary walls, construction of a dharamshala, laying of sewerage system, etc. While starting the sewerage and solid waste management works at Jaitewali village at a cost of ~22 lakh, Rinku said this project would solve the sewage problem of people here. As many as 27,890 eligible persons were registered as new voters to exercise their franchise in the upcoming SGPC polls. In a meeting with officials on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal said special camps were organised at all gurdwaras. Patwaris of areas concerned were present at the camps and received registration forms. He said 10,205 and 17,685 voter registration forms were submitted on January 14 and 17, respectively. He said the district had six SGPC constituencies - Phillaur, Nakodar, Shahkot, Adampur, Jalandhar city and Kartarpur. The administration started the 15-day special drive on January 10 to enhance the enrolment of voters. More camps would be organised in the coming days to facilitate the eligible voters. The DC said enough voter enrolment forms were given to patwaris. Forms could also be downloaded from Jalandhar.nic.in. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
