The tenure of 2015 batch IAS officer Aditya Uppal, who took charge on December 9 last, ended today as he was replaced by Gautam Jain, two years his junior. Uppal has moved to Pathankot as Deputy Commissioner. Jain was last posted as Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) in Ludhiana. The frequent transfers in the civic body have adversely affected its working, hampering the pace of development badly in the city areas. Man, grandson die in road mishap Garhdiwala, (Hoshiarpur) January 29 A man and his grandson died after the bike they were riding collided head-on with a car bearing registration number PB10GS8988 on the DasuyaHoshiarpur road here. The deceased have been identified as Rajinder Prasad (55), a resident of Argowal village, and his two-and-a-halfyear-old grandson Lakshya. According to information, Rajinder Prasad, along with Lakshya, was going to Mangarh from Argowal village on his motorcycle bearing registration number PB07BX0491. and sent the bodies to the Civil Hospital, Dasuya, for postmortem examinaton. Hit by bus, elderly man dies When he reached near a petrol pump on the DasuyaHoshiarpur road near Argowal, a car coming from the opposite side collided headon with his motorcycle. As a result, Rajinder and his grandson fell on the road. The duo died on the spot. The car driver fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind. The police reached the spot In another incident, an elderly man died after being hit by a bus on the Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road. According to information, Appar Apar Singh, a resident of Baghpur village, told the police that his father Pritam Singh (72) was coming towards the village on a scooter. He denounced the Union Government’s move of excluding Punjab’s representation in the Republic Day parade terming it as an insult to Punjabis. Rinku said the absence of Punjab’s tableaux from the Republic Day parade in Delhi was a disservice to the state’s immense contribution to the nation’s progress and its pivotal role in the freedom struggle. He lamented that despite Punjab being considered as the nation’s breadbasket, its representation was overlooked, calling it disrespect to the sacrifices of countless martyrs. Three poignant tableaux entered the city today. Ravinder Singh and three others - Harminder Singh, Baldhir Singh and Jhilman Singh – were killed on February 4, 1986 while they were protesting over the burning of ‘birs’ of Guru Granth Sahib at a gurdwara in Nakodar. Ravinder’s father Baldev Singh has written to the Punjab CM for the fifth time citing all details of the case. Parents of three other youths have passed away since the episode. The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Singh of Odra village. According to information, the finance company owner shifted the victim to a government hospital in Dasuya where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The firm owner fled the hospital leaving the car behind. Harprem Singh, SHO of the Dasuya police station, and family members of the deceased reached the hospital. Relatives of the deceased and villagers sought registration of a case against the suspect and his arrest. The SHO said preliminary investigations revealed that the shot was fired from a licensed weapon of the finance company owner. Take proactive measures to ensure that such atrocities are never repeated in Punjab, reaffirming the commitment to upholding human rights and the rule of law.” Three illegal constructions razed An illegal structure being demolished in Jalandhar on Monday. TRIBUNE PHOTO Tribune News Service Jalandhar, January 29 Municipal Corporation teams carried out a demolition drive in Punjabi Bagh and Mehr Enclave early this morning. The MC teams razed three unauthorised constructions on the Mithapur road. These included two commercial buildings in Mehr Enclave and a double-storey house in Punjabi Bagh. MC officials said notices were earlier served to building owners. Construction work was also stopped several times, but the owners continued to raise the buildings further. Assistant Town Planner Sukhdev Sharma said the owners did not get the building plans passed. They also did not pay any CLU. The building branch team of the MC had razed as many as 20 illegal buildings in the past two weeks and plans to continue the action further.
