Those booked were identified as Iqbal Dhillon and Deep Bajwa. Locus Masih, a resident of New Hamidpura, Naraingarh in Chheharta, told the police that the suspects were anchors of a Punjabi TV channel and had made objectionable comments against Jesus Christ and the Bible on social media. A complaint was lodged with the police four days ago and a case was registered after taking legal opinion. A case was registered under Sections 295A and 34 of the IPC against the suspects. — TNS Woman attacked by stray dogs; CCTV footage goes viral Tribune News Service Jalandhar, February 4 A distressing incident unfolded in Ashok Nagar when an elderly woman fell victim to an attack by a pack of street dogs. The incident, which took place on Saturday morning, came to light when its CCTV footage went viral across all social media platforms, sparking widespread concern and outrage. As per information, the victim, who works as domestic help, was crossing the street when suddenly four to five dogs pounced on her. She fell complained to MC regarding the ❝We have oftenin our area, butthe action has been stray dog menace no taken in this regard by officials concerned. He said, “We can’t let our children go out alone on the street as we are afraid of such incidents.” The residents said the district administration and the MC should implement sustainable solutions to control the rising dog population and prevent such incidents. In 30 days, rash driving claims seven lives in Nawanshahr Aakanksha N Bhardwaj Tribune News Service Jalandhar, February 4 A woman identified as Usha Rani was killed in a road mishap yesterday when an auto-rickshaw she was travelling in was allegedly hit by a speeding Scorpio (fourwheeler) in Nawanshahr. Complainant Madan Lal from Sadar Banga in his statement to the police said he and his wife Usha Rani were going to their relatives. He said, “My nephew was to come with us. So, I and my nephew rode on a bike while my wife boarded an autorickshaw. I was following the auto-rickshaw on the bike. Suddenly, a Scorpio coming at a high speed drove past us and hit the auto-rickshaw. He said a woman was driving the four-wheeler. According to unconfirmed reports, the Scorpio driver has been arrested by the police. A case under Sections 279 (Rash driving) and 304A of the IPC has been registered against the suspect. This is the fifth such accident in the past 30 days. Earlier, two brothers from Nawanshahr were killed after the bike they were rid- ing was hit by a Fortuner SUV from behind. On January 3, a woman identified as Kamaljit Kaur (40) died while her daughter Jasmeet Kaur from Balachaur suffered serious injuries after the two-wheeler they were riding was hit by a car. As per information, the car driver, who belonged to Gurdaspur, fled the spot after the accident. Later, the police arrested the car driver. On January 2, two migrant workers lost their lives after the bike they were riding was hit by a car in Nawanshahr. The deceased were identified as Saroj Kumar and Manish Kumar. On January 16, Lakhwinder Singh (40), a resident of Sadar Banga, succumbed to his injuries after the motorcycle he was driving was hit by a tractor-trailer. Two snatchers arrested, five bikes,mobile phone recovered Tribune News Service Jalandhar, February 4 Continuing the drive against crime, the city police today arrested two more notorious snatchers and recovered five stolen motorcycles and one mobile phone from them. Divulging details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Swapan Sharma said they got a lead that snatchers were active in the Ladowali road area of the city. He said acting on a tip-off, the police arrested a snatcher identified as Lalit Kumar, a resident of Bilga village from Ladowali Road, and recovered one stolen motorcycle and a mobile phone from his possession. The CP said during interrogation, Lalit revealed that he committed crime with his accomplices, identified as Uday Walia and Ajay, both residents of Bilga village. “Subsequently, police parties conducted raids and arrested Uday from Bilga village. Man booked for cheating on wife Tribune News Service Nawanshahr, February 4 A man from Rahon has been booked under Sections 498A and 406 of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly marrying a woman for money so that he could go and settle abroad. A woman from Rahon in her complaint to the police alleged that her husband’s family had told them that he had cleared IELTS, but didn’t have money to go to Canada. “They asked us to give some money and then promised my family that they would get us married. When we got married, my father gave them furniture and Rs 7 lakh in cash to my inlaws. Even after marriage, my in-laws kept demanding more money from my parents,” the woman claimed in her statement. She further said when her husband went to Canada, he called her and asked her to arrange more money. “Also, I came to know that he had married me just for money and was actually involved with some other woman,” the complainant alleged. After recording the complainant’s statement, a case has been registered against her husband. Farmers to gherao houses of ministers, Preparations in full swing to make Feb 13 morcha a success MLAsif sugarcane dues not clearedsoon Tribune News Service Tribune News Service Jalandhar, February 4 Farmers of the Doaba Kisan Committee today said if the Punjab Government does not deposit sugarcane subsidy dues in their accounts, they would gherao houses of ministers and MLAs. “The state government has remained silent on the pending sugarcane dues for the ongoing season for more than two months since sugar mills started functioning,” said Jangveer Singh Chauhan, national president, Doaba Kisan Committee, Punjab, and a member of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM). He said the Punjab Government had decided to deposit Rs 55.50 in farmers’ accounts as per letter No. 16842, dated December 1, 2023. However, not a single penny had been deposited in farmers’ account, he said. Chauhan said farmers had to resort to protest to get requisite sugarcane rates when the crushing seaon started in Punjab. He said last year, the state government had started paying subsidy money as soon as sugar mills started functioning, but this year, it sits with ears and eyes closed. Chauhan said despite being part of the AAP government in Punjab, its MLAs and ministers from the sugarcane belt were not paying attention to problems faced by farmers. He further said the government, which failed to keep election manifesto promises, must be face protests.
