The suspects - Ravinder Singh, alias Harry Rajpura, a resident of Gopalpur in Patiala, and Harjit Singh, alias Harry Mor, a resident of Mor Kalan village in Bathinda, who were already declared POs, - were arrested after being brought on production warrant from the Bathinda jail on February 7. The police also recovered 12 kg marijuana (ganja) from them. Giving details, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said the police got a tip-off that an interstate gang involved in smuggling of marijuana was operative in the city. Based on inputs, the police laid a trap near the Sant Nagar railway crossing, Railway Colony. He said on suspicion, the police stopped two persons, identified as Mohd Aslam and Mohd Danish, both natives of Uttar Pradesh, for checking. During frisking, the police recovered 12 kg of marijuana (ganja) from their possession. CP Sharma said the police arrested the suspects. A case under Sections 20, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the duo at the New Baradari police station, Jalandhar. “During investigation, it came to fore that the gang used to procure ganja from Odisha and supply it in the state,” he said. He said the consignment was to be delivered in Jalandhar. Since there was not even a single government-run bus and private operators could ply buses only as per the timetable, commuters had a tough time catching a bus. There was a huge rush at the counters for Chandigarh, Mohali, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Pathankot, Ropar and Nawanshahr. The waiting time to board a bus spanned for over one hour.
