Showing solidarity with constituent outfits of the Samyukat Kisan Morcha for getting their genuine demands accepted from the Centre and the state government, members of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) (Ekta Ugrahan) were sitting on dharna for the past four days. Addressing the dharna, general secretary of BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) Saudagar Singh said they have protested for five days but the government has failed to accept their demands. “Now, the next plan of action will be chalked out on February 24 in Chandigarh. No talks were initiated during these five days which has forced them to take their protest further,” he said. Addressing the meeting, Harinder Singh Lakhowal, president of the union, said Sanyukt Kisan Morcha has given a call for bandh on February 16 as the Union Government is involving big corporate houses in every field and ignoring the small business houses and interests of the common man. Adding Saroop Singh said that during the previous protest by farmers, the government had assured to pass MSP Guarantee Bill but two years have passed and the government has failed to bring up the bill. “The progress in the villages has come to a halt and the approach roads are in a bad condition. We are left with no other option but to take up the path of protest. We will be supporting the February 16 call for Bharat Bandh in interest of the farmers,” he said. The suspect have been identified as Deepanshu Singla and Dhanna Singh. Complainant Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Salempura, told the police that his younger brother Hardeep Singh (25) was married and also had a one-year-old daughter. Yesterday, he went to his work and when he returned home, his father informed that Deepanshu and Dhanna had taken Hardeep with them for consuming drugs. The complainant alleged that he received a call from Davinder Singh of Salempura who informed that Hardeep had died and his body was lying on the banks of Sidhwan Bet. A syringe containing drugs was also found in his hand, he alleged. Deceased’s brother said his brother had died because he was given overdose of drugs by Dhanna and Deepanshu. It is pertinent to mention here that after the incident, villagers had also gathered in the Salempura village and held protest against the police for failing to control the menace of drugs. They alleged that due to the lethargic approach of police, drugs are easily available and drug addicts are losing their lives. After NGO seeks carpeting of Shiv Dham Mandir Road Tribune News Service Ludhiana, February 10 Members of an NGO, along with former members of the Ludhiana West Sub-division Grievances Redressal Committee, have written to the Chief Minister and the Local Bodies Minister, demanding the carpeting of a road that connects Hambran-Ladhowal Road and Shiv Dham Mandir in Bagga Kalan village, Ludhiana. The road also provides access to an old age home and orphanage run by the NGO. At present, the road is in a dilapidated condition. Rajeev Arora, president of Helping Hands Club, an NGO, stated that they have requested the CM and the Local Bodies Minister to take necessary measures to get the road carpeted. The incident took place on the intervening night of February 8-9. The deceased has been identified as Sajan Kumar (21), a resident of Badewal Awana. Bhavesh Kumar, a resident of Badewal Awana, said last night he and his brother Sajan Kumar were riding on their separate scooters and were heading to their home. When they were near the Sukhmani Enclave, a speedy car rammed into Sajan’s scooter. Sajan suffered serious injuries in the accident and was immediately shifted to the DMC hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to the injuries during the treatment. The incomplete service lane was a part of the Southern Bypass project started in 2009. The construction of the service lane from the closed railway-level crossing (Ludhiana-Dhuri railway line) near Guru Nanak Colony towards Gill Road remains incomplete even after more than a decade. Notably, the railway-level crossing was shut down following the construction of the railway over bridge (ROB). Arms licences cancelled Ludhiana, February 10 Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal on Saturday cancelled the arms licence of holders found misusing the weapons issued to them. We have cancelled the arms licence of those persons who have violated the Arms Act rules by misusing their weapons, said CP Chahal. Notably, on February 4 a youth received a bullet injury during a wedding on Sua Road in Jawaddi. Two groups had allegedly entered a spat over the changing of songs by the DJ at Alley Greens Resort.
