Dismayed by the recent AAP decision of announcing to contest the city Lok Sabha seat and holding protests without taking the Congress along, the latter is no mood to keep the alliance intact even for the civic body elections. Sources said Congress councillors held a meeting yesterday and they were of the view to not go ahead with the alliance. The city unit of the party has conveyed the same to its high command and are awaiting a final nod to sever ties. In case the mayoral poll is held again, the Congress will either boycott or contest the election, but will not support AAP . Alliance Air is operating an additional flight from Chandigarh to Delhi in the wake of increased passenger load from February 13 to 17. The Delhi-Chandigarh flight takes off at 9.15 pm and the Chandigarh-Delhi 9.45 pm. Over the past two days, the airfare to Delhi has increased around five times. A Chandigarh-Delhi ticket which came for Rs 3,018 earlier is now priced around Rs 10,000-17,000. Traders at the Sector 26 market here stated that the prices of vegetables and fruits had increased by more than 50 per cent in the city because trucks from other states were not able to reach here. He said nearly 80 vehicles arrive at the mandi every day, but only 20 vehi- cles could reach today. These vehicles reached four to five hours late. A vendor said trucks were unable to reach the market due to the agitation, resulting in increase in the cost of farm produce. The price of tomatoes, which were being sold for Rs 30 kg of late, went up to Rs 50 per kg today. Similarly, the rate of cauliflower rose from Rs 15 earlier to Rs 25 per kg. The victim, Kuldeep Singh, who works in Sector 22 here, stated that three youths who came in a car robbed him. Ravneet Singh Robbers struck at road near Gurdwara Nada Sahib He said he was on his way back to Ambala in a car around 9.30 pm when three car-borne youths intercepted him near Gurdwara Nada Sahib. “One of the boys came out of the car and brandished a pistol. They threatened to shoot me. They forcefully opened my car and grabbed a bag containing cash and other valuables. They also snatched my phone and car keys before speeding away towards Ramgarh,” he said. Kuldeep Singh later filed a complaint with the Chandimandir police. The police have registered a case under Section 379-A (theft) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act against the unidentified youths and started an investigation into it. — TNS Tribune News Service Panchkula, February 14 The local MC has claimed to complete processing of the legacy waste at the Jhuriwala dumping ground and the garbage at the Sector 23 site by February 25 and March 21 this year, respectively. The MC stated this in a report submitted to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in connection with an appeal filed with the tribunal by one Sanjay Kumar against the Union of India and others over alleged unscientific dumping of waste at the Jhuriwala site, which is close to the wildlife sanctuary, in violation of the environmental norms. In the appeal filed in the year 2022, Kumar stated that the Jhuriwal dumping site was situated at 140 m from a wildlife sanctuary. The site, which was supposed to be used for a solid waste management plant, was being illegally used for dumping of waste, he added. The MC, in its compliance report, stated that it expected to process the entire waste at Jhuriwala by February 25. The MC said it processed an average 1,018.73 metric tonnes (MT) of legacy waste per day (based on the last month’s data) at the Jhuriwala dumping site.
