During Ambassador’s visit, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami discussed various matters with him. Dhami requested him to start direct flights from the USA to Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport. Dhami said the Ambassador gave a positive response in this regard. Dhami felicitated Garcetti and his family members with a model of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), books and shawls at the Information Centre. Accompanied by his family members, the US Ambassador visited Sri Guru Ram Dass Langar hall, performed parkarma (circumambulation) and sewa (voluntary service). With deep respect and friendship.” Dhami said the US Ambassador said there was a large population of Sikhs in his home state of California with whom he had good and old relationship. The Ambassador said the commencement of a direct flight from America to Amritsar would offer convenient connectivity to the Punjabis settled in the United States. c m y b IndiGo resumes direct flights to Lucknow from city JE, clerk held for taking ~50K bribe Amritsar, February 26 The IndiGo has resumed its Lucknow-Amritsar direct flight after two months. The flight was suspended since December 31, 2023, as the airline was facing engine issues in many of its Airbus aircrafts. With resumption of the flight, IndiGo is now operating two daily flights between Amritsar and Srinagar. Yogesh Kamra, convener India for the FlyAmritsar Initiative, said the same aircraft departs for Srinagar from Amritsar. As per schedule, flight from Lucknow departs at 7:15 am and arrives in Amritsar at 8:50 am. The same flight departs from Amritsar for Srinagar at 9:25 am. The flight arrives in Srinagar at 10:15 am. It departs from Srinagar at 10:45 am and arrives in Amritsar at 11:45 am. After a 30 minute layover, the same flight departs for Lucknow at 12:15 pm. It reaches Lucknow at 1:45 pm. The airline also operates Bengaluru-Amritsar-Srinagar flight with a halt at the holy city’s airport. The same aircraft after landing in Amritsar departs for Srinagar and then returns on the same route. This second daily flight from Amritsar departs at 1:20 pm and reaches Srinagar at 2:10 pm. From Srinagar, it takes off at 2:45 pm and reaches Amritsar at 3:40 pm. — TNS Amritsar, February 26 The Vigilance Bureau (VB) has apprehended Jagjit Singh, junior engineer (JE), and Sanjiv Kumar, sales clerk, both posted at Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000. An official spokesperson of the state VB said these officials were arrested on a Tribune News Service complaint lodged by Inderjit Singh, a resident of Nawan Kot, Amritsar. He said the complainant had approached the VB and alleged that the two officials were demanding Rs 50,000 bribe for issuing no objection certificate (NOC) regarding ownership of his plot on the railway link road. The spokesperson said after a preliminary probe, a 30-yr-old man stabbed to deathatCivilHospitalgate Tribune News Service Amritsar, February 26 A man was stabbed to death by alleged drug peddlers at a local hospital last evening. The police nabbed three suspects within a few hours of murder. The deceased, was identified as Harjinder Singh (30), alias Sunny, a resident of New Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar, Sultanwind Road. The suspects, were identified as Mehtab Singh, alias Rajan (34), Sukhdev Singh, alias Kaka (26), and Sunita Rani (53), all residents of New Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar, Sultanwind Road. Pragya Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Police, said after murder, teams were constituted under the supervision of Sukhbir Singh, SHO, Division B police station, to trace the suspects. Following investigation, ASI Armjit Singh and his team arrested suspects within one hour of the murder and recovered sharp weapons and vehicles used in the crime. Gurdial Singh, father of deceased, stated that his son Harjinder was a jeweller and Mehtab Singh, alias Rajan, lived in their neighbourhood. Mehtab was involved in many crimes. Some bad elements often visited Mehtab at his home. Harjinder’s family suspected that Mehtab sold drugs. Farmer outfits hold tractor marches, burn govt effigies Tribune News Service Amritsar, February 26 Farmers under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha held tractor marches at various places in the district to protest against the Centre and Haryana Government and mobilise agrarian community’s support for their demands. Farmers led by Bharti Kisan Union (Ugrahan) held a protest at Golden Gate here on the GT road and burnt an effigy of the Central Government. Farmer leaders criticised the government for using violence to silence the voice of the community. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
