Harpreet Singh, owner of Sat Guru Enterprises, told mediapersons that the suspects barged into his office and stole ~2.5 lakh and a laptop. He lodged a complaint with the Nakodar city police. The entire incident has been captured in CCTV cameras. The police reached the spot and initiated investigations. OC MAN NABBED FOR GAMBLING Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a person on the charge of gambling. The suspect has been identified as Raman, a resident of Mohalla Bagh Wala. Investigating officer Buta Singh said the suspect was selling betting slips in the town. A sum of ~1,350 and betting slips were recovered from his possession. A case under Sections 13-A-3 and 67 of the Punjab Gambling Act was registered against the suspect. OC MC cell flooded with 900 plaints in 2 days Issues related to poor sewerage, defunct street lights Aakanksha N Bhardwaj Tribune News Service Jalandhar, February 26 The city is grappling with various issues as a large number of complaints related to operation and maintenance (O&M) and street light branches are pouring in with the Municipal Corporation cell these days. According to information, over 300 complaints related to O&M branch, including poor sewerage and contaminated water, have been lodged with the MC in the past two days. Apart from this, non-functional street lights in several areas are also troubling city residents. The MC cell received over 600 complaints related to non-functional street lights in the past two days. The MC officials said a large number of affected residents are visiting “Aap Di Sarkar, Aap De Dwar” camps and sharing their ordeals. People from Bhullar colony, Dakoha village, and other nearby areas had shared their plight at one of the camps recently. The deceased has been identified as Mukesh, a resident of Nanowal village near Balachaur, while the suspect has been identified as Raju Gurum, a resident of Siliguri in West Bengal. The duo was working in the fields of Rulda Singh. The police said they consumed liquor after dinner and indulged in a scuffle. Following this, Raju killed Mukesh with sharp weapons. The police have registered a case against the suspect and recovered a knife from the crime spot. The police arrested the suspect and sent the body to the Civil Hospital, Balachaur, for post-mortem examination. Man shot at in Phillaur Tribune News Service Jalandhar, February 26 A person was injured after a group of assailants shot at him in Phillaur here today. The victim has been identified as Sanju Masih, a resident of Mittha Khuh at Phillaur in Jalandhar. The police have arrested a person in this regard. Sanju was returning after the hearing of a case in a court with his cousin Vijay Masih when his neighbour and rival Shiva Masih began shooting at them. Vijay Masih is a resident of Malah Mohalla, Ucchi Ghati, in Phillaur. A case has been registered against three persons — Shiva Masih and Roshi, residents of Mittha Khuh in Phillaur, and Jatin, a resident of Ganna Pind in Phillaur. The trio have been booked under Sections 307, 33 and 341 of the IPC and Sections 148 and 149 of the Arms Act. The FIR was registered on the complaint of Vijay Masih. Was returning after court hearing; 1 held; old rivalry suspected The police said an old dispute between Sanju and Shiva Masih was the reason behind the attack. As per the complaint, the victim alleged that during their return from court, Shiva Masih spotted them and started firing. He also alleged that Shiva, along with his associates, was present at the spot. As per preliminary reports, Sanju Masih suffered bullet injury on the right side of his abdomen. He was shifted to the Civil Hospital, Phillaur. Owing to his serious condition, he was referred to the DMC&H, Ludhiana. Phillaur SHO Neeraj Kumar said, “A person has been arrested. There was an old rivalry between Shiva and Sanju groups. The police are on the lookout for other two accused, who will be arrested soon.” Couple injured as SUV, scooter collide head-on Jalandhar, February 26 A speeding SUV collided headon with a scooter near Devi Talab Temple in the wee hours here this morning. The incident was captured in CCTV cameras. A couple riding the scooter suffered serious injuries in the mishap. The duo has been identified as Satish Kalra and his wife Meena Kalra. Satish, who suffered a fracture in the backbone, is undergoing treatment at a hospital. According to information, the mishap took place when Satish and Meena were going to Devi Talab Temple on their scooter around 4:15 am. The SUV collided head-on with their scooter near a cow shed. A passerby, with the help of others, shifted the injured persons to the hospital. The SUV driver fled the spot. The police said efforts were on to identify the SUV driver through the CCTV footage. — TNS SSA office staff to protest in Chandigarh tomorrow Tribune News Service Jalandhar, February 26 Employees of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Office Employees’ Union have announced to hold a protest at the Punjab Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh on February 28. The decision follows the government’s failure to heed their demands after a threeday symbolic pen-down strike. Members of the union said despite a decision taken by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Education Minister Harjot Bains and the cabinet sub-committee to regularise the services of contractual employees of the Education Department, nothing had been done and the decision remains pending.
