The suspect in custody of the Amritsar police on Wednesday. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was registered against him. The police said further investigation was on to establish his backward and forward drug supply links. Trader’s name figured during interrogation of two drug peddlers arrested with 500 gm of heroin each. They were identified as Roshan Singh, aka Roshi, a resident of Rorawala village, and Gurjit Singh, alias Gopi, a resident of Cheecha village. The Gharinda police had recovered Rs 50,000 drug money from Gurjit Singh. His interrogation led the police to Gurjit Singh from whom Roshan had procured the contraband. The police arrested Gurjit and recovered 500 gm of heroin and Rs 50,000 drug money from him. While investigating the financial trail, the police zeroed in on Raman Kumar who runs a grocery store in the Majith Mandi area. The suspect used to handover drug money to him for further transfer and distribution. “Raman Kumar was produced in a court and brought on police remand for further interrogation. His backward and forward links are being established to find out where he used to transfer money. His Pakistan’s and Dubai links are also being ascertained,” the SP said. Sources in the Police Department said with the arrest of Raman Kumar, more traders in the Majith Mandi area, especially those involved in cross border business had come under scanner. Amritsar, February 28 The Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Raj Kumar, in-charge, Kot Khalsa police post, Amritsar city, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6 lakh. Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said ASI Raj Kumar was nabbed on the basis of an online complaint lodged by Amanchain Singh, a resident of New Udham Singh Nagar, Amritsar, on the Punjab Government’s anticorruption action line. The spokesperson said the complainant had alleged that the ASI demanded Rs 6 lakh from him in lieu of getting a clean chit for him and his four relatives in an inquiry of a murder case registered at the Division B police station. ASI Raj Kumar in custody of the Vigilance Bureau in Amritsar. During investigation of the complaint, it was proved that the accused ASI had taken a graft of Rs 6 lakh from the complainant for the getting their names cleared in the murder case. The spokesperson said a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the ASI at the VB police station, Amritsar range. The Gharinda police in Amritsar (Rural) police district nabbed Gursewak Singh, alias Babbu, a resident of Nurpur Hakima, Dharampur, Moga, and Jagpreet Singh, aka Bhullar, a resident of Khanna in Ferozepur, from the Attari road. The police seized a pistol, five live bullets and a mobile phone from Gursewak. The police said they got a specific input that Gursewak, who was travelling in an Innova bearing registration No. PB-03-R-7337, was carrying an illegal pistol. Following tip-off, a naka was laid near Barista for checking vehicles. The suspect was intercepted and the pistol was recovered from him. During interrogation, Gursewak told the police that Jagpreet had sent him for bringing the weapon from an unknown person. Immediately, a raid was conducted in Ferozepur and Jagpreet was arrested. A case under the Arms Act Amritsar, February 28 Three employees of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Bank bungled over Rs 2.37 crore from the branch located in Shashtri Market here. The incident came to light when branch manager conducted a surprise checking of cash and found the money missing. The branch manager reported it to the higher bank authorities at zonal office in Kathua and cluster head office in Mohali. However, the bank authorities decided to lodge a complaint. The police booked Sunil Khajuria, Bakshi and Gupta in the case. Calling it another step in improving school infrastructure, Bains said funds were being allotted to beautify buildings of schools and improving the quality of education. During the event, each school was awarded a prize amount of Rs 10 lakh, 7.5 lakh and 5 lakh, respectively, after selecting one senior secondary, one high and one middle school of each district in the state. It provided relief to passengers, especially the old, infirm and physically challenged. Escalators and lifts at the Amritsar railway station often develop snag due to constant working. Daily passengers complain that these machines often develop complications, thereby inconveniencing visitors. A majority of commuters complained that climbing platform stairs was an arduous task as these machines remained out of order frequently.
