Sources said the victim was also suffering from some serious ailment and was under depression. He himself made a pyre and laid down on the same and set it on fire. Hearing his screams, local residents gathered and raised the alarm. To save the victim, they brought him out of the room but he had already succumbed to his burn injuries by then. Officials from the Haibowal police station reached the spot. The deceased has been identified as Manoj. He was unmarried. The residents said he was staying alone. The body of the deceased was kept in the mortuary of the Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination. — TNS Man kills elder brother over property dispute Incident occurred after duo consumed liquor with father Tribune News Service Ludhiana, February 28 A man murdered his elder brother by attacking him with a iron bar at Poonia village in Samrala on Tuesday night. Even their father, who came to the victim’s rescue, was not spared by the suspect. He was also seriously injured in the incident. The deceased was identified as Jagjiwan Singh, alias Jagga. The suspect has been identified as Dalvir Singh, alias Soni. Two years ago, Jagjiwan had murdered his mother and a few months ago, he was acquitted by court in the case. VICTIM MURDERED MOTHER 2 YRS AGO Two years ago, Jagjiwan Singh, the deceased, had murdered his mother and a few months ago, he was acquitted by court in the case. Ram Singh (67), their father, told mediapersons that there was a fight in the family over distribution of property. His elder son Jagjiwan wanted more property than his siblings due to which he used to frequently indulge in scuffle with family members. On Tuesday night, he along with his two sons were consuming alcohol during which arguments started between both brothers. Following which, Dalvir brought an iron bar and killed his elder brother Jagjiwan by repeatedly hitting on his head. He even tried to kill his father by attacking him with iron bar. He suffered serious injuries. Ram Singh said his sons were addicts due to which their wives had left them and started staying at their parents’ houses. Samrala SHO Rao Varinder Singh said the police reached the scene and started a probe. A murder case was registered and the man was held. Dispute over property was the reason behind the crime. Three of thieves’ gang nabbed, 7 vehicles seized Tribune News Service Ludhiana, February 28 The Ludhiana police today claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle thieves and arrested three of its members. The police recovered seven motorcycles and five mobile phones from gang members. The suspects have been identified as Harsh Singh, alias Harry (21), of Sawan Vihar Colony, Arshpreet Singh, alias Goni (19), of Bhamian Kalan and Gagandeep Singh (19) of Bhukhri village. Harsh and Arshpreet are cousins. In the upcoming fiscal year, the Municipal Corporation (MC), Ludhiana, anticipates collection of Rs 40 Approved an estimated Budget of ~990.7 cr for 2024-25 on Tuesday crore in fine from violators of building regulations. Notably, the corporation approved the estimated annual Budget of Rs 990.70 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25 on Tuesday. The Budget agenda will now proceed for final approval from the government. To achieve the revenue target of Rs 990.70 crore, the MC aims to secure Rs 40 crore from fines related to illegal constructions in the fiscal year 2024-25. Previously, the target was set at Rs 37 crore for 202324. From April 1 to December 31, 2023, the MC managed to collect only Rs 10.02 crore. It anticipated collecting an additional Rs 26.98 crore in fine during the last quarter (from January 1 to March 31, 2024) of the current fiscal year. Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney handed over four drones systems, comprising an electrical vehicle and generator, costing Rs 15 lakh each, free of cost to the young progressive peasants — Rupinder Kaur from Lapran village in Payal, Mandeep Kaur Pannu from Barundi village in Pakhowal, Gurinder Kaur from Machhiwara and Simranjit Kaur from Marewal-Gehlewal village in Machhiwara. Aged between 25 and 40, the beneficiaries are wellqualified with most of them graduates in agriculture and heading self-help groups (SHGs) dealing in agro and farmers’ producers’ companies in their respective villages with hundreds of farmers as their members.
