It is likely to bring down the trading of fresh farm produce at Vallah Sabji Mandi. The decision was taken by the Association after holding a meeting here on Friday. Charanjit Singh Batra, president of the Association, said a delegation had gone to meet the MLA on March 14. However, they were ignored and sent back, he said, adding that they decided to go on an indefinite strike to avenge the humiliation of the trading community. Talking to mediapersons, Dhaliwal said his party will win all 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab. Amritsar, March 15 A youth, identified as garment trader Rajvir Sethi, alias Venu, son of Vipun Kumar of Hansali Wali Gali in Petia Wala bazaar, was shot dead by three motorcycle-borne armed assailants outside the Gate Hakima police station here on Thursday night. The victim, along with his two friends Harjit Singh and Sanju, was travelling in a car when the incident took place. The police on Friday claimed to have identified the suspects involved in the crime and raids were on to nab them. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital and admitted for treatment. Assistant Commissioner of Police Surinder Singh confirmed the incident and said that a case is being registered and further probe is on. The victim said that he was going for work when six persons surrounded and attacked him. He alleged that the accused shot at him and a bullet hit him in the leg. The accused fled from the scene while threatening him. Following the information, cops from Islamabad police station led by ACP Surinder Singh reached the spot and carried out investigations. ACP Surinder Singh said that Gurjant had a quarrel with a group of persons on Jhabal road leading to his assault and injuries. He said details were being verified and further investigations are in progress. He said the accused would be arrested soon. People of Punjab are feeling sorry for voting the AAP to power. 7 cellphones seized from Amritsar jail Tribune News Service Tarn Taran, March 15 In an interesting incident, Reshma (29), a member of the Gujjar (Muslim) community who was living with her parents in Mathrewal village after leaving behind her husband, was strangulated by her spouse and other members of her in-laws’ family on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. Reshma was married to Sokoo of Ekal Gadda village and her sister-in-law (husband’s sister) Meena was married to Sahia (Reshma’s brother). This is the common tradition in the Gujjar community which is called as ‘Exchange of Girls” (Vatte Da Saak) in the families. Meena, leaving behind her husband Sahia, went to her parents’ place in Ekal Gadda four months back. Sahia, in a fit of anger, took his sister Reshma from Ekal Gadda to Methrewal. Sokoo, along with his father Safi, brother Kareem, Sapdeen and five other unknown persons knocked the doors of Reshma who was sleeping with her mother Leema on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. When Reshma opened the door, she was taken away by her husband and others and strangulated to death. The other members of Reshma’s parental family were detained in a room by the accused. SI Paramjit Singh, SHO, Goindwal Sahib, said the accused have been identified as Sokoo (husband of the victim), his father Safi, brothers Kareem and Sapdeen and five other unidentified persons. They were identified as Ghaniya Shah and Sandeep Thapar of Focal Point, Mehta road here. Harpreet Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Mohkampura police station, informed that during patrolling in the Jora Phatak (twin railway crossing) area, the police arrested the two accused upon receiving a tip-off. The police seized a stolen c m y b bike from their possession on the spot. They could not give satisfactory answers to police queries after which a case was registered against them. During interrogation, the police recovered four stolen mobile phones also. Further investigation was on into the matter, the police said. Tribune News Service Amritsar, March 15 Officials of the property tax wing of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation sealed nine more properties of tax defaulters in various areas of the city. The MC drive against defaulters of property tax wing has been underway from the start of March. MC officials said action was taken by teams of Central Zone and South Zone on Thursday. Central Zone Superintendent Harbans Lal, Inspector Sitaram and their team sealed nine buildings. Vishal Wadhawan, Nodal Officer for property tax, stated that three defaulters later made payment and got the seal opened. He stated that similarly, six buildings were sealed by South Zone Superintendent Jaswinder Singh, Inspector Tarsem Sahota and their team on Sultanwind Road. Of them, three buildings were opened after the property owners made the payment. However, three buildings remained sealed. Wadhawan said those will pay property tax after March 31 will have to pay a 20 per Amritsar, March 15 Islamabad police have arrested eight prisoners of Amritsar Central Jail for allegedly possessing seven mobile phones and six SIM cards which were recovered during surprise checking yesterday. Among those booked included Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Singh, Sukhjit Singh, Sajan Singh, Karan Singh, Sajan Singh, Harjit Singh and Arshjot Singh. A case under Sections 42, 52-A of the Prison Act was registered against them. The sneaking of mobile phones and other prohibited material inside the high security jail complex continue unabated while the city police have constituted a special investigating team to probe into these cases. Till now over 200 cell phones were recovered from the jail in past over two months. Throwing prohibited material from outside the jail complex has been a challenge for jail authorities.
