The suspects have been identified as Jonathan Shimon, Marylina, Shivaan, Sheikh Sameer and four unidentified persons. Complainant Amit Kishore, a resident of the PAU Campus, told the police that promising high returns, the suspects added him to some WhatsApp groups providing information about investment plans in the stock market. The suspects took ~1.40 crore from him on the pretext of investing money in the stock market. He transferred the amount in different bank accounts provided by the suspects. The complainant revealed that when he could not get any returns, he asked the suspects to return his money. The suspects refused to return his money and instead demanded more money from him. When he refused, the suspects sent a legal notice to him and warned him of strict action. Investigating officer Inspector Jatinder Singh said further investigations were on in the case. Woman among 4 nabbed with heroin, poppy husk Ludhiana, March 23 The Sadar Khanna police arrested four drug smugglers, including a woman, and recovered poppy husk, heroin and drug money from their possession in separate cases yesterday. In the first case, the Samrala police arrested a woman smuggler and recovered 1.8 kg of poppy husk and ~35,000 drug money from her possession. The suspect has been identified as Parminder Kaur, while three of her accomplices identified as Balwinder Singh, alias Bindri, Prince and Sameer, alias Mota, all residents of Samrala, are yet to be arrested. Investigating officer SubInspector Rao Varinder Singh said they got a tip-off that the suspects were into drug smuggling trade. They used to bring drugs from neighbouring states and deliver it to their clients in the Samrala area. After getting information, the police conducted a raid and nabbed the woman smuggler. Further raids were being conducted to nab the remaining persons. A case was registered against the suspects. In another case, the Sadar Khanna police arrested three drug smugglers and recovered 22 grams of heroin and a car from their possession. Those arrested have been identified as Rinku, Mehar Singh and Jagmal Singh, all residents of Mubarakpur, Bassi Pathana. Investigating officer Pargat Singh said a naka was laid at a strategic place to keep a tab over anti-social elements. On suspicion, the police signalled a car to stop for checking. During frisking, the police recovered 22 grams of heroin from the suspects. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the suspects. — TNS Harassed for dowry, woman dies by suicide Ludhiana, March 23 A woman died by suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her in-laws’ house in Ghumed village, Koomkalan. The deceased has been identified as Sandeep Kaur (31). The police booked her husband Jagdeep Singh, fatherin-law Mukhtyar Singh and mother-in-law Paramjit Kaur on the charge of dowry death. Complainant Harbans Singh of Begowal, Khanna, told the police that his daughter got married to Sandeep in December 2023. Soon after marriage, the suspects started harassing her for dowry. On March 22, Sandeep Continued on page 2 3 get 10-yr RI, fined ~40K each for dacoity Rajneesh Lakhanpal Ludhiana, March 23 The court of Additional Sessions Judge Amrinder Pal Singh has convicted three persons in a case of dacoity of ~14 lakh and gold ornaments at a house. The court sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 10 years each. Those convicted include Ajay Kumar, a resident of Mohalla Dhuman, Jagraon, Ravi Kumar, a resident of Kamalpura, Jagraon, and Parmanand, alias Nandu, a resident of Mohalla Ram Nagar, Jagraon. The court also imposed a fine of ~40,000 on each of the convict. “It is a heinous crime. It shows the courage of the convicts that they entered a house and remained there for 40 minutes. They committed dacoity and also caused injuries to family members. It means a person in not safe in its own house. There must be a deterrent effect on such persons,” observed the court while declining their plea for leniency. On the statement of complainant Nachattar Singh, a case was registered against the suspects on October 21, 2018. The complainant stated that on the day of the incident, his son Navjot Singh came home around 8 pm. He was carrying a sum of ~2.25 lakh with him. While Navjot was counting the cash, the suspects, who were carrying a kirpan, entered the house. They snatched the cash from Navjot and threatened them to handover more money. When the complainant resisted, one of suspects hit his son on the head with the kirpan. The suspects took the money and gold jewellery from the almirah before fleeing the spot. They also took away two scooters from the courtyard. The police cracked the case in a couple of days and recovered ~5.35 lakh and gold and silver jewellery from them. It came to fore the ANM used to register delivery cases of private nursing homes in the record of a government hospital. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
