The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Masih, a resident of Darapur village near Gurdaspur. The police have arrested the canter driver, identified as Kuldip Singh, a resident of Rajasthan. A case under Sections 279, 304A and 427 of the IPC has been registered. The body of the deceased has been sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. OC MOTORCYCLE STOLEN Phagwara: A motorcycle was found stolen from outside a paying guest accommodation near Law Gate, Miherru, on Wednesday night. Complainant Shyam Sunder, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, told the police that he parked his bike outside his PG accommodation. He found the bike missing on Thursday morning. The police have registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC. OC Jalandhar, April 11 Even as the Lok Sabha election campaign is yet to hit its stride, reports of alleged violations of the model code of conduct are already flooding C-vigil application. According to information, the administration received a total of 136 complaints via the C-vigil app from March 16 to April 11. The highest number of complaints (30) originated from Jalandhar North, followed by 24 from Jalandhar Cantonment and 23 each from Jalandhar West and Central. He said priority was accorded to addressing these complaints and people were also appealed to report any sort of violation related to the model code of conduct on the app for speedy redress. PHOTO: SARABJIT SINGH Man held for tampering with ATM CPI (M) candidate kicks off poll campaign Tribune News Service Jalandhar, April 11 The city police arrested a person for allegedly tampering with ATM and stealing money at a kiosk here. Divulging details, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said Deepak Sharma, owner of a cash loading machine, yesterday complained that he received a call from a customer who tried to withdraw cash from an ATM around 4:30 pm, but failed to do so. He stated that Sharma received a similar complaint three days ago. “During inspection of the ATM, the police and the bank team found a plastic sheet on the cash dispenser,” he said. CP Sharma said during investigation, the police scrutinised the footage of CCTV cameras. In the footage, a person was seen attempting to tamper with the ATM. A case under Sections 380, 420, 454 and 511 of the IPC was registered against an unidentified at the Division No. 5 police station person. He said during investigation, the police arrested the suspect, identified as Ravi Pal, a resident of Hirapur village, Lambra, Jalandhar. MALKIAT SINGH Jalandhar, April 11 Starting his poll campaign from the native place of communist leader Harkishan S Surjit at Bundala village near here, CPI (M) candidate Parshotam Lal Bilga held a rally today. Party leaders and speakers at the event launched the Lok Sabha campaign in Jalandhar recalling the contributions of one of their tallest leaders Surjit, who was also the party’s general secretary. The speakers at the rally said the party was attempting to unite all leftoriented, secular groups and forum. Balwant S Ramoowalia of the Lok Bhalai Party also came in to support the CPI (M) candidate.
The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
