Those arrested have been identified as Jaskaran Singh Malli, Daljit Singh, alias Sonu, and Kulwinder Kaur. However, family members of the deceased, Ankit Jumba, contest the claim, insisting on the arrest of ‘main suspect’ Karan Malli’s wife, alleging her involvement in the crime. The family members protested outside the Division No. 5 police station here this evening, accusing the police of being lenient towards Malli’s wife. They alleged that she was not only present during the attack but also assaulted Ankit’s wife, causing miscarriage. They alleged that despite submitting evidence to the police, including videos and medical reports, they remain uninformed about her status in the FIR or any progress in her arrest. In a two-hour protest, family members demanded justice for Ankit and his unborn child, calling for all responsible parties being apprehended. Family members of the deceased hold a protest outside the police station; and (below) cops address the media after the arrest of three suspects in the case on Tuesday. TRIBUNE PHOTOS THE ALLEGATIONS Ankit's family members alleged that Malli’s wife was not only present during the attack but also assaulted his wife, causing miscarriage. They alleged that despite submitting evidence to the police, including videos and medical reports, they remain uninformed about her status in the FIR or any progress in her arrest. ACP-2 (West) Kulbhushan, who was present at the spot, assured the protesters of ongoing investigations and adherence to legal procedures. In a press conference held in the afternoon, police offi- cials claimed that the investigation began following a complaint by Ankit’s brother Mony Jamba. Mony told them how Ankit and his wife, Manisha, had ventured to Bhargo Camp in Jalandhar to procure medicine. When they reached near Malli’s residence in Mohalla Chai Aam, they encountered a group consisting of Daljit Singh, alias Sonu, Karan Malli, his wife, and several unidentified individuals. A confrontation ensued during which Ankit was viciously attacked. The assailants, armed with weapons, inflicted fatal injuries on Ankit. Despite being rushed to the hospital by his family, Ankit succumbed to his injuries. In response to the incident, the police registered a case under Sections 302, 341, 324, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC. During investigation, it came to fore that the families of Ankit and the suspects harboured an old animosity towards each other. On April 23, 2021, a case was against Ankit Jamba and his family, who were recently released from jail. ADCP-2 Aditya confirmed that significant progress had been made in the investigation, leading to the arrest of three persons. He assured that efforts were on to arrest the remaining individuals implicated in the case. Regarding the alleged involvement of Karan Malli’s wife, Aditya stated that her name had a mention in the FIR based on the complaint by the victim’s family. However, he emphasised the necessity of establishing her role in the crime through thorough examination of facts and evidence. Religious fervour BJP puts speculations to rest, fields It's official, Tinu is AAP's Anita Som Prakash from Hoshiarpur pick for Jalandhar seat INDIA VOTES 2024 Sanjiv Kumar Bakshi Hoshiarpur, April 16 For the past several days, speculations in Hoshiarpur regarding the BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha seat ended on Tuesday when the party announced the names of its three candidates from Punjab and fielded Anita Som Prakash as its candidate from Hoshiarpur. According to her biodata, Anita Som Prakash, wife of Hoshiarpur MP and Union Minister of State Som Prakash, does not have a long political career but she has been associated with various social organisations for a long time. These include social service institutions such as Sehat Suvidha Sanstha, Helping Hand Organisation and Janata Di Rasoi. MIXED REACTION While there is happiness in one camp of the BJP with Anita Som Prakash getting the ticket, there is silence in other factions. Some senior workers expressed their displeasure on the social media. A senior worker posted on Facebook, “Samajh ton Pare, Rabb hi Rakha” (Beyond understanding, only God can save), others also expressed their displeasure. However, leaders and workers of the Tikshan Sood-led faction, who are considered close to Som Prakash, not only congratulated Anita Som Prakash, but also made claims of winning the seat with a huge margin. VETERANS’ HOPE Former MP and Union Minister of State Vijay Anita Som Prakash celebrates with her supporters in Hoshiarpur. Sampla, along with Som Prakash’s wife, were seeking BJP ticket from Hoshiarpur. Aam Aadmi Party’s Assembly candidate from Dinanagar in 2017 Joginder Singh Chhina, who had left AAP and joined the BJP before the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypoll in 2017, a woman academician and a former DGP were also trying for the ticket. Apart from these, other local leaders also queued up for the ticket and had applied for it. Out of the large number of ticket aspirants, the party once again expressed confidence in sitting Lok Sabha MP Som Prakash, although this time the ticket has been given to his wife. It is believed that Som Prakash’s poor health was becoming a hindrance in his getting the ticket due to which Anita Som Prakash was fielded. FACTIONALISM A PROBLEM Anita Som Prakash may have won the race for the ticket, but it is definitely going to be a difficult task for her to overcome the internal factionalism prevailing in Hoshiarpur unit of BJP Factions led by Vijay . Sampla, Avinash Rai Khanna and Tikshan Sood have been in the BJP for a long time and the relations between them have also remained a point of discussion. Amidst the efforts of district BJP president Nipun Sharma to act impartially without getting entangled in factionalism, a new type of factionalism is going on separately. Som Prakash’s closeness to the Tikshan Sood camp is well known, while at the same time, his not being visible in the programmes of other factions is not hidden from anyone. Resentment among a section of BJP workers and people over the alleged inadequate presence of Som Prakash in his constituency can also become a cause of trouble. Old-timers, especially those associated with the party since the Jan Sangh days, who were traditionally considered voters and supporters of the BJP also do not seem to be , in a good mood. Among workers, there appears to be an undercurrent. In all these circumstances, it will be a big challenge to control the factionalism before it flares up. It will also be a big challenge to convince indignant workers and leaders to come along. Infighting among leaders, who appear to be together from outside but are unhappy from within, will have to be surmounted. Jalandhar, April 16 Former Chief Parliamentary Secretary from the Shiromani Akali Dal Pawan Kumar Tinu, who joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday, was officially declared as its candidate for the Jalandhar LS seat today. The allottees, along with the BJP leader, handed over a complaint letter to the Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, demanding the execution of consumer commission orders regarding the arrest of the JIT chairman. The allottees expressed frustration over the persistent failure of the Trust to adhere to directives from the district, state and national consumer commissions regarding the refund of their money. The cumulative sum of ~29 crore includes the principal amount, interest and compensation as ordered by the consumer commissions after the Trust lost cases to the allottees. “With the Trust failing to comply with the orders, the consumer commissions then issued nonbailable warrants against the JIT chairman in these Surya Enclave allottees, along with BJP leader KD Bhandari, at the CP office in Jalandhar on Tuesday. TRIBUNE PHOTO cases. However, the police failed to execute the warrants. Over 100 such warrants have been issued and the police returned all these orders with a reply that ‘orders not met’,” said Darshan Singh Ahuja, an allottee. While appealing for the release of dues, he said they had been struggling to get justice for over a decade. He highlighted the poor condition of these housing schemes, plagued by illegal encroachment by migrants and antisocial elements. Manohar Lal Sehgal, another allottee, said being a senior citizen, he was forced to make frequent visits to the JIT office and courts in pursuit of his hard-earned investment. Over a decade had passed, but neither the previous nor the present government had shown any willingness to deliver justice. “We demand that the JIT must clear our dues shortly and compensate all allottees,” he said. The allottees claimed that the police had assured that orders of the courts would be executed, and the BJP leaders promised to take their matter with the higher authorities. Meanwhile, the allottees said on April 18, they would meet the SHO of the Division No. 4 police station and hand over a letter to him, demanding the execution of the commission’s orders.
