The deceased have been identified as Jugraj Singh (18) and Pritpal Singh (19) of Raniwallha village. The injured Balwant Singh, of the same village, has been admitted to a local private hospital where his condition is said to be stable. Harpal Singh, a relative of the victims, said that the village sarpanch took them to work in his fields where he dug a deep pit. The workers continued on page 2 Amritsar, May 16 In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural Police have arrested Jagroop aka Bikram, alias Jupa, of Chananke village, a close aide of US-based notorious gangster Pavitar Chaura. The police confiscated two pistols, a 9mm calibre Zigana (made in Pakistan) and a .32 bore pistol, along with 10 live cartridges, a mobile phone and two magazines from his possession. SSP Amritsar (Rural), , Satinder Singh said Jagroop was the main weapon handler of gangster the Pavtittar Chaura-Husandeep gang and faced 12 criminal cases, including of robbery, under the Arms Act, NDPS Act and an attempt to murder case in Tarn Taran, Amritsar and Batala police districts. A fresh case under the Arms Act was registered against him at the Mehta police station here, he said. “As per a preliminary probe, Jagroop was in contact with gangster and narcotic smuggler Pavittar Chaura who was also wanted by the Punjab Police in various crimes, including murder, attempt to murder and under the Arms Act. Chaura faced eight criminal cases, six were registered in Amritsar rural police district and two in Gurdaspur,” said the SSP . Chaura had also formed a close association with Babbar Khalsa International member and gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa, who had escaped to a foreign country using fake passports. He said investigation was in progress to establish backward and forward linkages of Jupa and the motive behind was to acquire these weapons. In a press conference held here today, KMSC general secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher said that the BJP leaders are trying to defame farmer leaders after they failed to do so by using intimidation techniques. Jang Bahadar Singh, a KMSC leader from Alkhare village who was present at the press conference, alleged that a former MLA, Ranjit Singh Wariamnangal who had joined the BJP recently, accused Pandher of demanding Rs 10 crore to end the ongoing protest at Shambhu border. Jang Bahadur Singh alleged that they had gone to meet the BJP leader regard- ing collection of money for a religious event during which the BJP leader asked them to vote for his party. “During the interaction, Ranjit Singh alleged that Pandher is asking for Rs 10 crore but they are ready to give Rs one crore. We know that he is trying to defame farmer leaders,” he said. The KMSC leaders stated that if there was any truth in the allegations, senior BJP leaders must come forward and make it clear as to who had offered money to whom. District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori on Wednesday instructed the representatives of the political parties whose candidates are contesting the Lok DC Ghanshyam Thori Sabha elections that strict action will be taken against c m y b them if they seek votes taking help of religious symbols or pictures. Besides, he said as per the model code of conduct, prior approval of content from the MCMC (Media Certification and Monitoring Committee) of visual display is required for all types of advertisements on social media, bulk SMS, voice message, inter- net, website, e-paper, private radio FM channel in public places. Moreover, it will be mandatory for the candidates to mention the cost of advertisement on social media. He said the sole responsibility of the content of all types of posters, banners and pamphlets will be the responsibility of the printer and publisher. It will be mandatory to book its expenses. Prior approval of posters, pamphlets, banners and leaflets is not required as per the rules. In the case of print media, he said it will be necessary to get prior approval for publishing advertisements in newspapers on the day of voting (June 1) and that too, one day before. He said in case of registered national and regional parties, approval should be applied three days before and unregistered parties should apply seven days before for approval to the MCMC cell.
