The police said the suspects had been identified as Parminder Singh Gullu, Jatinder Singh Ajay and Lovpreet Singh. The incident happened on the intervening night of May 22 and 23. The victim was alone at the house and her father had gone somewhere for work when the suspects committed the crime. On returning home, victim’s father came to know about the incident. Sub-inspector Mandeep Kaur recorded the statement of the victim on Thursday. His body was found from the local railway crossing in Kakka Kandiala village on Friday. Signs of severe beating were visible on the body of the deceased. Inspector Sunil Kumar, SHO, Tarn Taran, said on the basis of the statement of Ranjit Singh (28), son of the deceased, a case under Section 302 of the IPC had been registered in this connection. With Election Commission of India (ECI) restricting poll expenditure on publishing material, roadshows and rallies, the social media campaigning has taken a centre stage and with this, came heavy-onvisuals poll songs. From using Karan Aujla songs to playing his poll theme “Aujla jeeta deo” and the Congress’s poll anthem “Haath badlega halaat”, played during roadshows and on social media, Gurjeet Several political parties have released poll songs to woo voters. Aujla’s outdoor campaign has been high on music. BJP’s Taranajit Singh Sandhu’s social media campaign is not high on volume, but his poll songs tease his opponents with lyrics like “Pehlan vangu botal de nal vote ni paunde, hoge log siyane gallan vich ni aounde” (Like before, people won’t give vote for a liquor bottle as they have become wiser and can’t be enticed). Another song, which is prominently played as an anthem during his roadshows and rallies is “Kamal da phull khidona eh” (Make lotus flower bloom). Continuing with the drive, the authorities concerned recovered 25 mobile phones and drugs from jail inmates during search operation on Thursday. The jail authorities lodged a complaint with the police following which two separate FIRs were registered at the Islamabad police station here. In a separate case, the jail staff recovered 35 grams of opium, 25 grams of charas and 69 intoxicant tablets from another inmate identified as Sagar, alias Love. A separate FIR under the Prisons Act and NDPS Act was registered against him. The police said the accused would be brought on production warrant for further interrogation to investigate how the prohibited material was sneaked into the jail. Till now, over 400 mobile phones had been seized by the jail authorities during the past five months. Tribune News Service Amritsar, May 24 In an intelligence-based operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday seized a packet of contraband containing 400 grams of heroin from the fields at Rorawala Kalan village. According to officials of the BSF the packet was wrapped , in yellow adhesive tape. A deep ring was also found attached with the packet, BSF officials said. Congress leaders under the banner of Punjab Pradesh Congress (Urban) first demonstrated against the state government at Ranjit Avenue. Later they held a protest march till the office of MC. A large number of Congress leaders and workers participated in the march. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Aujla said for the last two years, there was neither mayor nor responsible government in the city.
