Inspector Sunil Kumar, SHO, who visited the spot, said the deceased, was identified as Manpreet Singh (16), and the injured as, Jasanpreet Singh (19). He said Jasanpreet was elder brother of the deceased. The SHO said the brothers had demanded Rs 2,000 from one of their associate pathi (gurdwara priest) Subhkaran Singh of Gohalwar village for duties performed in Akhand Paths. This infuriated Subhkaran, who in a fit of anger, attacked brothers with a sharp weapon. Manpreet received injuries on his chest and left hand and Jasanpreet was also hurt in the incident. Both were rushed to the Civil Hospital where Manpreet was declared brought dead by doctors. The condition of Jasanpreet was stated to be stable. A case was registered against Subhkaran. However, the police arrested a youth in this connection and recovered a weapon and a car used in the crime. According to the police, the firing occurred following arguments between two youths over an NRI girl near Ranjit Avenue D block here. The police registered a case against the youth and started investigation to ascertain the legality of the pistol used in the crime. As per details, an NRI girl was School employee dies by suicide Our Correspondent Tarn Taran, May 26 Satish Kumar Duggal, Director, and Reetu Duggal, Principal, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Convent School, Sohawa, have been held responsible for the death of a school employee who ended life by jumping in a sarovar of Gurdwara Gurpuri Sahib, Sohawa, on May 22, near the school. A suicide note was recovered from the pocket of the deceased in which he reportedly accused director and principal of harassing him. The deceased was identified as Rajinderpal Singh (55) of Shahbazpur, near Tarn Taran. He was a motivator, who convinced the area residents, to get their kids admitted to the school. He was paid Rs 10,400 per month by the school management. As admissions to the school decreased this year, Satish Kumar and Reetu allegedly started harassing Rajinderpal over the issue. He said officials, who remained absent from last two poll training duties, were given a chance for clarification. Those, who remained absent from the third poll rehearsals conducted today, would also face the music. Thori supervised the third poll rehearsals at polling stations and counting centres of 11 Assembly constituencies. That’s what Congress MP Shashi Tharoor did as he enjoyed a meal of famous Amritsari kulcha on his brief visit to the holy city to campaign for party’s candidate Gurjeet Singh Aujla. Tharoor, who addressed a closed door meet-and-greet session with trade and industry experts in the city, later indulged in some culinary tourism, with a big smile for cameras. Of course, a crispy, hot loaded kulcha slathered with butter, served with tangy, and spicy chutney would do that do anyone. Later, Tharoor visited Jallianwala Bagh where he paid tribute at the memorial and also paid obeisance at the Golden Temple. Earlier, in the day, at a business conference along with Aujla, he recalled how he gave Aujla the title of Singh is King after the Parliament security breach incident in December 2023. “Without giving a thought to his own safety, he just grabbed the intruders. It was brave of him and I asked him why he is not talking about it. The election for the LS seat would be held on June 1. As per the Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines, silence period comes into force 48 hours before the election day during which no candidate can hold campaigning events. Candidates are sweating it out in the heat along with senior leaders of political parties who are addressing rallies in their support. With the highest temperature already touching 44°C, campaigning, especially roadshows, rallies, and door-to-door visits have already become difficult. Candidates are preferring indoor events instead of going out in the open. The rising temperature is also expected to pose a challenge to the ECI’s efforts to increase poll percentage. In the previous LS elections, only 57.04 per cent votes were polled in the constituency. Out of these 292 persons are aged above 85 years and 83 are persons with disabilities (PwD). District Election Officer Ghanshyam Thori said Amritsar Central and Amritsar West segments had achieved 100 per cent voting target as all persons in the two categories had cast their votes. He said nine voters in Amritsar Central and 52 in Amritsar West had exercised their right to franchise from their respective homes. Thori said that the ECI had given the facility to cast votes from home to persons over 85 years and PwD. He said in all, 409 people were allowed to vote from their respective homes as per the ECI guidelines.
