Addressing the Mahila Shakti Samman rally at Dassehra Ground, Ram Darbar, this evening, she said: “Sanjay Tandon toh bahana hai, Modiji ko lana hai.” In her 30-minute address, she highlighted the national schemes, which have benefited people, especially women. A case against accused Amarjit Singh Shahi, proprietor of M/s Money Matters Financial Advisers, having its office in PhaseIX, Mohali, was registered at the Sector 49 police station in December last year. Col Soninder Singh (retd) and three other Army officers had complained against Shahi and his aide Laxmi Narayan Shukla, proprietor of M/s PS Money Multipliers, Kanpur, for cheating them on the pretext of investment. They alleged that Shahi er spoke ill of Modiji. “If there had been the Congress rule in such difficult times, there would have been a vaccine scam. They would have also not given ration to people free of cost,” she said. Smriti Irani also said certain Congress leaders conveniently sought medical treatment abroad even for mild illnesses, which shows their detachment from the realities faced by ordinary citizens. “Some may even plan leisure trips to Thailand post June 4, as they will lose the election,” she said, poking fun at the Opposition leaders. Referring to the schemes of the BJP government, the Union minister said poor and needy people were getting free treatment worth Rs 5 lakh in 27,000 hospitals of the country under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. She asked the gathering, which mostly comprised women, “How many are happy with the construction of Ram Mandir? Had Modi not come to power, the Ram Mandir would not have been built. Become protectors of democracy like Bhagwan Hanuman ji and set the Congress’ Lanka ablaze.” “There is no confusion within the Congress when it comes to looting the country’s exchequer. There’s no ambiguity within their ranks while undermining India’s integrity and values, nor when they choose to decline invitations such as the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha. Addressing the people, Kejriwal said, “You have given chances to all party candidates, but no one did anything for you, nor did anyone raise their voice for your rights in Parliament. Our candidate Dr Balbir understands all your problems. He will raise your issues in Parliament.” “Give the AAP all 13 seats of Punjab. BJP score card 0/56, Tewari equates unfulfilled vows with ‘56-inch chest’ Sandeep Rana Tribune News Service Chandigarh, May 28 Equating 56 unfulfilled promises of the BJP’s manifesto of 2019 with “56-inch chhaati”, Congress candidate Manish Tewari said today that he gave the previous manifesto 0/56 marks. He claimed none of the 56 promises made by the BJP in 2019 could be properly fulfilled. Tewari today presented a 56-point “chargesheet” against 10 years of “non-performance” of the city BJP . Even though Kirron Kher was the sitting MP at that time, the Congress attacked BJP nominee Sanjay Tandon, saying “Sanjay Tandon ka score 0/56” as he was the Chandigarh BJP president at that time. The BJP’s “report card” released by the Congress reads, “Is it the 2019 Lok Sabha election Sankalp Patra or list of the BJP’s jumlas? Sanjay Tandon’s BJP had released a manifesto with 56 promises, but not even a single one has properly been fulfilled by the party.” “Where is the citizen charter? No public darbar was organised as the MP remained in Mumbai. Why did you not bring Metro to the city in 10 years? Why could the issue of 62,000 CHB houses not be resolved? Why were ownership rights not provided to colony residents? The issue of construction outside the ‘lal dora’ was also not fixed. Your score card is zero out of 56,” said Tewari. “Instead of admitting it, they called a press conference of mayors, among whom was a ‘bhagoda’, to list ridiculous achievements. The BJP did nothing. Number 56 seemed to have been taken from ‘56-inch chhaati’,” added the former report card of Ludhiana and Sri Anandpur Sahib. Tewari is a ‘migratory bird’ and believes in abandoning constituencies, not in development. So I don’t think he has anything to report on development.” Tandon addressed a number of gatherings during his “padyatras” in the city. He said ever since Tewari landed in Chandigarh after an absence of 40 years saying goodbye to Ludhiana and Sri Anandpur Sahib — his two earlier constituencies — he had based his entire election campaign on seeking BJP’s report card of 10 years. Now that the former BJP mayors have presented it, Tewari, who has no issues to fight the election on, has been rendered speechless. During his ‘padyatra’, Tandon interacted with shopkeepers of the Sector 38 market. From there, the yatra continued on page 3 Two years on, doctor booked for negligence Hottest May day in 13 years, mercury hits 45°C Tribune News Service Chandigarh, May 28 Almost two and a half years after a man died at the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, the UT police have registered a case against a doctor. According to the police, a woman resident of Sector 35 had alleged that her husband Sourav Gautam visited the hospital on November 21, 2021. He was not provided the required medical assistance by Dr Gurnam, Emergency Medical Officer (EMO), and other hospital staff at the Emergency, she alleged. The police investigated the matter, sought a legal opinion and finally registered a case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) at the Sector 17 police station. Tribune News Service Chandigarh, May 28 The city today recorded the hottest May day after 2011 with the maximum temperature reaching 45°C and the minimum 25.6°C. On May 17, the second highest maximum temperature of the month was recorded at 44.5°C. The third highest maximum temperature (44.4°C) for this month was witnessed on May 15, 1970, and the fourth highest (44.3°C) on May 26, 1969. The highest ever temperature in the city was recorded at 45.1°C on June 1, 2012. On Tuesday, the day temperature was 4.9 degrees above normal. Expect good monsoon: IMD According to scientists of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), while there’s no immediate relief from the heat, monsoon will c m y b SHOWERS LIKELY ON JUNE 1 As per the IMD prediction, the city will record a maximum temperature of 43°C on the day of polling, i.e. June 1, in Chandigarh. However, the city may have partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers, which will lead to an increase in humidity levels. be exceptional this year. During an interactive workshop in Chandigarh, the IMD scientists predicted that this year’s monsoon will ride on the La Niña conditions. “Monsoon is likely to hit Kerala on June 1, and usually after almost a month, the Punjab region welcomes the change in weather. We are expecting monsoon’s arrival here by June 30. This year, it will be good, in technical terms the clouds are expected to be helpful to both farmers and citizens,” said Shivinder Singh, Scientist D, IMD. The scientists gave various reasons behind the prevailing heatwave. “There are various reasons, including global warming, Western Disturbance or challenges posed to nature by humans. The uncontrolled emission of greenhouse gases is the most challenging part to control such weather. People do ask, if the Ukraine war, paddy burning, Mediterranean sea affect the current weather or global warming... The answer is Yes,” added Shivinder. “We cannot challenge the atmosphere, otherwise the IMD could have suggested cloud seeding to control the current situation. We have also seen many adverse effects of the cloud seeding in other countries and in ours as well. This is a hitand-go method, which is ideally not good,” said Shivinder. Manish Tewari addresses a press conference. RAVI KUMAR DARES TANDON FOR DEBATE TOMORROW Even though Tewari has been asking Tandon for a debate over the city’s issues right since he started his campaigning, he has now fixed a date for the same. “If you accept my challenge for a debate, let me know till 8 am on May 30.
