The victim, a resident of Mani Majra, reported that two bikers snatched her phone near the Old Ropar Road in Mani Majra. She failed to note down the registration number of the motorcycle. TNS Vegetable waste, meat shops in airport vicinity attract birds, Mohali civic body unmoved Mohali, July 7 Garbage piling up near the boundary wall of Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport at Jagatpura has once again raised flight safety concerns but the Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) is unmoved. Despite the airport authorities having flagged the concerns several times, the MC officials have failed to take stringent steps to deter people from dumping garbage near the airport boundary at Kambala, Jagatpura and Sector 74. On the way to Jagatpura from Chandigarh, close to the landing spot, there are several spots where local residents dump garbage. It is not lifted for weeks, leading to messy and unhygienic conditions. There are no proper dustbins near the colonies and slum areas. Garbage, vegetable waste and meat shops in the vicinity attract birds. Chandigarh, July 7 Four youths were injured when a luxury car they were travelling in overturned in Sector 10 this morning. The injured youths were quickly shifted to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16. The accident occurred on the road behind DAV College. Sources said the car was being driven at high speed, which led to the crash. One of the passengers said it was unclear how the driver lost control of the vehicle. It flipped before landing on the roadside. The occupants escaped with minor injuries as the airbags got deployed in the crash. The police were informed about the accident. They have started an investigation into the incident. The car was removed from the spot with the help of a crane. Chandigarh, July 7 Over four years after then UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore had given in-principle approval to a pedestrian underpass between Panjab University (PU) and the PGI, the Administration has finally started the process for its construction. The Administration has invited bids for hiring a consultant, who will prepare a report on structural stability and submit drawings as well as detailed estimates for the underpass at a cost of Rs 2.36 lakh. In September last year, after some minor alterations in the project, the Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee (CHCC) gave its approval to the amended design of the underpass. A sub-committee of the CHCC in July last year had approved the project. To be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 7.20 crore, the sewer and storm water pipelines will have to be shifted before starting the construction of the underpass. According to the booking record procured from the MC by Chandigarh Tribune, a total of 4,054 events were held at community centres last year. Of these, no fee was charged for 1,891 bookings. The MC earned a revenue of Rs 2.94 crore, which could have been double had the authorities not allowed the use of the centres for free. The complainant, a resident of Sector 11, reported that she received a call from someone claiming to be a cop from the Crime Branch in Mumbai. The caller informed her that a SIM card issued against her Aadhaar card was found to have been used in money laundering activities. The fraudster claimed there were 24 money laundering complaints against her. The victim was threatened that she would be arrested. The caller instructed her to deposit Rs 80 lakh in a specified bank account as part of the investigation, assuring that her money would be refunded if she was found innocent. The complainant transferred the money to the account, only to realise later she had been duped. A case has been registered at the cybercrime police station. Some councillors misusing facility meant for marriages of poor girls NO FEE CHARGED FOR 1,891 BOOKINGS IN 2022 The Community Centre in Sector 21, Chandigarh. Councillors are allowed to offer community centres for free in case of poor girl child’s marriage, but this facility is often misused. There is no check on this misuse of MC property as no valid proof is required while booking a centre. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
