The suspect was identified as Jashandeep Singh of Ghuman village. He has been booked for alleged abetment to suicide. A case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against him in this regard. Keval Singh, father of the victim Pawandeep Kaur, alleged that Jashandeep was putting pressure on his daughter for marriage. He alleged that the suspect harassed her repeatedly. Kewal said the suspect used to call on Pawandeep’s sisterin-law’s mobile phone, and asked her to let him talk to her. He said perturbed over this, his daughter consumed some poisonous substance yesterday. Pawandeep was rushed to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital where she died during treatment, he said. The postTribune News Service Amritsar, July 7 A 17-year-old boy died due to internal injuries days after he was thrashed by family members of a girl with whom he had been in relationship. The victim, Rohit Masih, a city resident and the girl had run away on June 24. They were later traced and kidnapped by the girl’s family. The suspects thrashed the victim and also captured it in a video. The boy was later produced in a court which sent him to Bal Sudhar Ghar in Ludhiana. He complained of severe internal body pains and died in a hospital on July 4. Following the complaint submitted by his father Major Masih, the police have registered a case of mortem of the deceased was conducted at the Ludhiana Civil Hospital in the presence of magistrate and his body handed over to the family. He alleged that the suspects brutally thrashed his son and made a video of the incident. He said they also kidnapped Rohit’s friend Danial who had helped them elope. After thrashing Rohit and Danial both were produced in a court which sent them to Bal Sudhar Ghar in Ludhiana. Major said when he met his son in Ludhiana on Thursday, he had complained of internal body pain. He said the same night his son died. The meeting was presided over by DIG (Border) Rakesh Kaushal. SSP Ashwini Gotyal and all SHOs of the Batala police district were present at the meeting. Representatives of the public shared their views with senior officials on the occasion. They also gave suggestions to deal with the drug menace. Amritsar, July 7 The Rambagh police have booked a youth and the owner of a franchise of an Ayurvedic medicine company on the charges of abetment to suicide after an employee of the firm ended her life. Dimplepreet Kaur, (25) the victim, was missing since June 28. The body of the victim was found from a canal in the Khalra area in Tarn Taran. Following complaint by the victim’s father, the police have booked Joban Singh of Lopoke and Karamjit Singh, owner of the franchise company. Sukhwinder Singh, father of the victim, a resident of Mudhal village, told the police that Dimplepreet went to her work place June 28 morning, but did not return. When she did not return, the family talked to her colleague Sarika who told that she got a call from Dimplepreet on June 28 noon. She told Sarika that Joban had developed relationship with her on the pretext of marriage. Now, he got engaged with some other girl, she said. The victim alleged that on Joban’s recommendation the franchise owner threw her out of the job. Disturbed over this, she wanted to end her life, said Sarika. Sukhwinder said on Friday, the family got a call from Tarn Taran police that their daughter’s body was lying at the mortuary of the Civil Hospital. The police registered a case against Joban and Karamjit in this connection. Further probe was on and efforts were being made to arrest the suspects, the police said. Municipal corporation’s revenue hit as mSeva portal faces glitches Tribune News Service Amritsar, July 7 The revenue collection of various departments of the municipal corporation is badly hit due to technical flaws in mSeva portal of the Department of Local Government, Punjab. Residents are facing technical issues while paying taxes, bills and fee on the mSeva portal. Due to slow server issue, receipts of water-sewerage, property tax or other payments are not generated. After failed online attempts, residents visit the Citizen Facilitation Centre and demand hard copy of receipts, but they face the same issue on counters too. However, the centre staff is also not able to provide receipts to residents. Residents claimed that after making an online payment, money gets deducted from their bank accounts, but they do not get the receipt. Except the MTP wing of the Corporation, all other departments are far behind in meeting their revenue targets. The Property Tax Department has an annual target of Rs 50 crore, but has collected only Rs 3.25 crore during the current fiscal. Rent and sales tax collection has also witnessed a dip. The old arrears of the municipal water and sewerage bills running into crores of rupees is also yet to be generated. Earlier, the MC recovered Rs 55 crores against water-sewerage bills. Meanwhile, senior officials of the MC said there were some technical issues in the mSeva portal. Officials said they had written to the Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC) in this connection. Waterlogging in underpass irks villagers Tarn Taran, July 7 Since the last two weeks, an underpass constructed by the Northern Railways near Kakka Kandiala village has been under knee-deep water. Residents of villages near the underpass are facing problems in commuting due to waterlogging in the underpass. Whenever a commuter slips on the waterlogged underpass, he/she is robbed by miscreants taking advantage of the situation, especially at night. The memorial was inaugurated almost three years ago on August 15, 2021, by the then Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in memory of those who achieved martyrdom in the massacre of April 13, 1919. The incumbent AAP government has failed to maintain the park.” Tarn Taran, July 7 A team of officials of the Central Jail, Goindwal Sahib, under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent Kuljit Singh, conducted a search in the barracks of different wards of the prison. During checking the team recovered two mobile phones and other prohibited articles on Saturday. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sukhwinder Singh of Goindwal Sahib Central Jail police station said 76 packets of tobacco and 40 bundles of bidis, a keypad mobile phone and two chargers, which were thrown from outside on the jail premises, were recovered during the search operation. The ASI said a touchscreen mobile phone was recovered from the possession of one inmate identified as Sandeep Singh, a resident of Jandpeer Mohalla in Tarn Taran. A case under different sections of the Prisons Act was registered in this connection and further probe initiated.
