The draft will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval, before being sent to the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. A senior government functionary said an increase in the ESZ area has been proposed after consultation with stakeholders. Earlier, the Union Forest Ministry had rejected the Punjab Government’s proposal of only 100 metres of ESZ around the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary after the Chandigarh Administration objected to it. Recently, the Union Ministry had issued a draft notification demarcating area from 1 km to 2.035 km around the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary as ESZ on the Haryana side in Panchkula district. Though the UT Forest and Wildlife CENTRE HAD REJECTED PROPOSAL OF 100 METRE ESZ EARLIER Earlier, the Union Forest Ministry had rejected the Punjab Government’s proposal of only 100 metre of ESZ around the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary after the Chandigarh Administration objected to it. Recently, the Centre had issued a draft notification demarcating area from 1 km to 2.035 km as ESZ on the Haryana side in Panchkula district. Department has declared from 2 km to 2.75 km area as ESZ of the sanctuary, it has been seeking a similar zone from Haryana and Punjab. Celphos tablets were found in the car parked on the Sector 41/42 road on Tuesday evening. “We are investigating that which places the ASI visited after leaving the Sector 26 police station. It will help us establish the source of the celphos he could have consumed,” said a police official. An autopsy was conducted today at the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, and the body handed over to the ASI’s kin. Vijender consumed celphos hours later he escaped the CBI trap at the Sector 26 police station. The CBI had received a A forensics team inspects the car of ASI Vijender Singh. Chandigarh, July 10 An SUV sped away after hitting an ASI when the driver was signalled to stop for a traffic violation at the Furniture Market Chowk. According to the police, the complainant, ASI Paramjit Singh, along with other police personnel, was on duty when they saw an SUV coming from the Sector 41/42 road. The complainant said volunteer Harpreet signalled the driver to stop because the woman on the passenger seat was not wearing the seat belt. He alleged that instead of stopping, the driver sped away after hitting the ASI, who was standing on the Sector 54 road. He sustained injuries and was rushed to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital, Sector 16. The cops managed to note down the number of the SUV. Finally, Punjab to give land for Metro depot Dushyant Singh Pundir Tribune News Service Chandigarh, July 10 The Punjab Government has finally agreed to allocate nearly 50 acres in New Chandigarh for the construction of a Metro depot. The decision has paved the way for the tricity Metro project. The UT Administration had sent repeated reminders to the Punjab Government for the allocation of the piece of land identified for the construction of the Metro depot in New Chandigarh. A senior officer stated the government was ready to allocate nearly 50 acres, but the clearance by the Forest Department was pending to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. The Alternative Analysis Report (AAR) prepared by the Rail India Technical and Eco- Forest clearance pending for 50 acres in New Chandigarh nomic Services (RITES) identified the need for a depot in New Chandigarh. The land, already earmarked, is crucial for the inspection and maintenance of the Metro system once operational. Earlier, a proposal for an additional depot in Zirakpur was declined by the state government. However, in collaboration with the Haryana Government, plans are underway to set up a depot in Sector 27, Panchkula, as an alternative solution. The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has recently given in-principle approval to the proposed Metro project to be underground in the heritage sectors (1-30) of the city. The UT Administration had recommended that the proposed Metro project for the city should be mainly underground to preserve the city’s aesthetic structure. A sub-committee of the Chandigarh Heritage Conservation Committee, considering the city’s heritage status, had recommended the underground line for the entire Metro project. The UT Administration had communicated this decision to the ministry, and a detailed report on the underground project was requested for a final decision. The Administration had submitted the report to the ministry for the final decision. The sub-committee had suggested that no stretch of the Metro in the planned city should be elevated. They have claimed that the CCTV recording contains the alleged incidents of manhandling of the complainants by Malik and his accomplice. However, the Malik’s counsel denied the allegations before the committee. In its order, the committee says, “Looking at the nature of allegations in the complaints and subsequent events/developments brought to the notice of this committee, we are of the considered view that a series of events articulate that respondent No.1 (Malik) has time and again tried to interfere in the administration of justice and has brought a stigma upon the noble and prestigious post of President of the High Court Bar Association and thus lowered the dignity of the one of the best HCs in the country. “In the light of above-mentioned compelling circumstances, we deem it fit that his licence should be suspended till the final decision on the present complaint so that apprehension of destruction of the evidence and influence of witnesses can be avoided.” Brar is Director, Higher Education Chandigarh, July 10 Consequent upon the joining of Rubinderjit Singh Brar, PCS officer, in the Chandigarh Administration, he has been assigned the charge of Director, Higher Education.
