The victim, a native of Bahadurgarh in Haryana, stayed in a PG accommodation in Kharar. He was rushed to the Kharar subdivisional hospital where he died during treatment. Chitra, the only son of his parents, was reportedly mentally disturbed for the past sometime due to money matters. He was staying with his friends in Modern Valley, Khanpur. In another such incident, a 24-year-old woman, mother of two, reportedly hanged herself at her home in Preet Nagar area on Gulabgarh Road. Lakhodevi, a migrant, lived with her husband and children in a rented accommodation. No suicide note was found. The police said the victim’s husband, Dinesh Kumar, a daily wage earner, and her relatives could not be contacted. The police shifted the body to the mortuary of the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital. In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court in the case, Estate Officer versus Charanjit Kaur, the Ministry stated that the proposal had been examined in detail and was not agreed to. With regard to the amendment to the Capital of Punjab (Development and Regulation) Act, 1952, for revision of penalty to be imposed in cases of building violations and misuse of premises in Chandigarh, the proposal received from the UT Administration is under examination and consultation with the Department of Legal Affairs, the MHA submitted. Accordingly, the MHA requested the Supreme Court to accept the submission on the issue of conversion of industrial/commercial plots from leasehold to freehold in Chandigarh and also requested to dispose of the matter. “This action of the MHA has come as a shock. Earlier, the university had hiked the price of normal diet from Rs 39 to Rs 46.25 and that of special diet from Rs 44 to 51. Before this, the prices were reportedly changed in 2021. The student organisations had staged a protest against the hike on Thursday, after which the Dean had scheduled a meeting on Friday. That meeting remained inconclusive. “This is a positive outcome. They paid a good amount for the empties and cartons. The accused filled the empties of premium brands such as Chivas Regal, Glenfiddich, Glenmorangie, Gold Label, Blue Label and Glenlivet with cheap liquor, including Blenders Pride, All Seasons and Royal Stag. The prime accused, Shrishti, allegedly killed the woman with the help of her juvenile friend. Geeta Devi’s daughter, who lives in Pinjore, found the elderly woman murdered at her Kalka house on Friday. Her daughter, Neeru had told the police that no member of the family was at home when she found her mother murdered. The police started looking for Shrishti and arrested her along with her juvenile friend from Ramgarh on Sunday. Kalka SHO Hari Ram said the boy was sent to a juvenile Allegedly murdered woman with help of juvenile friend home. Shrishti was produced in a local court. The Judge sent her to three-day police custody. Police sources said the juvenile was a native of Punjab. The two got acquainted on Instagram and had been in touch for over one year. The juvenile had met the girl at her house on Friday. He was carrying a knife. The two were trying to flee but the girl’s grandmother intervened. The elderly woman was attacked with the knife and she died on the spot. The police are yet to recover the murder weapon. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.

The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
