A vehicle hit his son near Nangal Shahidan. He was rushed to the hospital where he died. The police have registered a case. They said last night, a senior citizen named Janpal Singh, who lived on the fifth floor of the J2 block, suffered a cardiac arrest. Due to the lift being non-functional, immediate medical assistance couldn’t reach him, and he had to be carried by the hospital staff down the stairs, wrapped in a bedsheet from the fifth floor. However, he died before reaching the hospital. The residents accused the builder and JIT of failing to address their grievances, resulting in loss of life. Gagandeep Kaur, Janpal Singh’s daughter, revealed that despite their best efforts and calling the security personnel for help, the non-operational lift caused a one-hour delay, leading to her father’s death. She stated that she lives on the eighth floor of the same building. Although two lifts were promised, one has not been installed while the other has been out of order for the last five days. Auctions helped tone up ‘ Improvement Trusts’ Hoshiarpur, July 15 Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa has said all Improvement Trusts have been strengthened by the government through auction of residential and commercial properties and e-auction of vacant land of the Trust for years. People have got property at reasonable rates and the income of the Trust has also increased, he said. Jimpa was addressing mediapersons on Monday after giving allotment letters to 16 successful bidders of e-auction at the office of Improvement Trust, Hoshiarpur. The minister said that during the bidding held from February 20-22 through e-auction, properties of the Trust worth about Rs 3 crore were sold. Jimpa said that a residential scheme of 7.73 acre, Rajiv Gandhi Avenue, is being established which has been approved by the Punjab Government. In this, modern facilities like clean water, sewerage, wide roads and streetlights will be provided. Residential plots will be allotted through draw of lots at government rate, he said. AAP remained triumphant in the remaining 177 out of 181 booths. AAP candidate Mohinder Bhagat had won by a margin of 37,325 votes on Saturday. In almost all other localities, including Bhargo Camp (a hub of the Bhagat community to which AAP candidate belongs), Model House, Shaheed Babu Labh S Nagar, New Deol Nagar, Bootan Mandi, Avtar Nagar, Basti Mithu, Basti Sheikh, Basti Nau and areas along Kala Sanghian road, AAP had a clear edge. At Rasila Nagar, which is home to BJP candidate Sheetal Angural, the BJP polled 389 votes, AAP 269 and Congress remained the distant third with 88 votes. At Basti Danishmandan, which too is considered a BJP turf, AAP gave a neck-and-neck competition to the BJP In . booth no. 96, Angural outscored both AAP and Congress, securing 252 votes against AAP’s 247. AAP candidate scored almost 50 per cent less votes than the votes polled to Surinder Kaur of the Congress (247 votes) and Angural (243 votes). Bhagat scored only 125 votes. Bootan Mandi, where AAP leader Pawan Tinu got an animal carcass dumping site removed, went in its favour with 218 votes. The BJP and Congress polled only 165 and 138 votes, respectively, even as it is pre-dominantly inhabited by the Ravidasia community to which both belong. The Avtar Nagar locality responded harshly towards Angural as the number of votes polled to the BJP in three booths no. 60-62 here was just 14, 14 and 17. Talwara lawyer dies as car ploughs into roadside tree Hariana (Hoshiarpur), July 15 A lawyer was killed in a road accident on the Hoshiarpur-Hariana road as his car rammed into a roadside tree here. The deceased has been identified as Munish Verma, a resident of Talwara. He was going back home in his car. When he reached near Hariana town on the Dasuya road, he lost control of the car and it hit a tree on the roadside. The accident was so severe that the car was badly smashed and Munish Verma died on the spot. A Road Safety Force team reached the spot and took him out of the vehicle and sent it to the Civil Hospital. After the accident, the police reached the spot and started investigation. — OC
