The complainant, a Sector 51 resident, reported that the miscreants targeted her near her house. A case has been registered at the Sector 49 police station and an investigation initiated into it. TNS TWO IMMIGRATION AGENTS BOOKED Chandigarh: The UT police have registered cheating cases against two immigration consultants. In the first case, a woman resident of Rajasthan complained that she was duped of ~9 lakh by Education Immigration Services, Sector 44, on the pretext of sending her abroad. In the other case, Parmod Kumar of Bihar alleged that Gazal Kapoor of Global Consultancy, Sector 32, cheated him out of ~1.5 lakh. Cases have been registered at the Sector 34 police station. An investigation in both the cases was underway. TNS TWO MINORS HELD FOR THEFT AT SHOP Chandigarh: The UT police have apprehended two juveniles for stealing ~1.20 lakh in cash from a shop at Modern Housing Complex (MHC), Mani Majra, on on the night intervening July 20 and 21. Complainant Shikha had reported that cash lying in the locker was stolen. A case was registered at the Mani Majra police station. During investigation, the CCTV footage of the area was scrutinised and the suspects were identified and subsequently nabbed. TNS Chandigarh, July 22 The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has cancelled the allotment of 16 small flats over non-payment of dues. The board has allotted 18,138 flats under the Small Flats Scheme, including 2,000 units under the Affordable Rental Housing Complex Scheme. These flats have been allotted for the occupation of the allottees and their families on a monthly licence fee basis, and cannot be sold, sub-let, transferred or handed over to other persons. These residential buildings are located in Sectors 49, 56 and 38 (West), Dhanas, Industrial Area, Mauli Jagran, Ram Darbar, Maloya (small flats) and Maloya (ARHC). Many allottees have failed to pay the monthly licence fee of Rs 800 regularly. Even as multiple show-cause notices-cum-demand notices were issued to them, the licencees failed to pay up. Officials stated that the allotment of around 16 small flats had been cancelled in accordance with Clause 16(a) (iii) of the Chandigarh Small Flats Scheme-2006. The breakthrough came after the arrest of Jai Karan Joshi (31), an immigration consultant who had defrauded numerous people by promising overseas travel. His arrest led the police to the operators of the lab. The police also recovered 102 passports, laptops and mobile phones from Joshi. Arshad Khan (24) and Mahipal Singh (27), both from Rajasthan, were running the lab, M/S Health Care Diagano Lab in Sector 33. Joshi’s immigration consultancy, M/S Golden Overseas in Sector 9, sent visa applicants to this lab for medical tests. The police arrested the two suspects on July 20 and seized nearly 1,600 medical reports, several blood vials, stamps with “fit” and “unfit” Post-audit observation, civic body retains ~12 crore of sanitation firm Sandeep Rana MC PAYS HUGE AMOUNT Tribune News Service Chandigarh, July 22 Following audit observation, the city Municipal Corporation has retained Rs 12 crore of Lion Services Limited, which has been assigned the contract of GIS-based mechanised and manual sweeping of roads in southern sectors of Chandigarh. According to the corporation, one of the conditions of the tender was that after being found lowest-bidding agency, the selected firm will have to give a break-up of its commercial operations. The audit observed that various components in the break-up given by Lion were either unjustifiable or more rate was quoted. For example, Before 2022 also, Lion Services Ltd had the sanitation contract for the city and was being paid ~4.70 crore every month. The MC was then criticised for giving the tender for such a huge amount. In the current tender also, the same agency bagged the contract. However, the amount paid to the agency this time was ~1.14 crore per month lesser. <
