During the visit, she checked the presence of force inside the police stations and interacted with them in detail to ensure proper law and order in the area. She also directed Station House Officers (SHOs) to conduct adequate patrolling in their respective areas and keep hawk eyes on anti-social elements. Students and parents going to two private schools in the area have been putting their lives at risk by crossing the tracks near the crossing. During a visit to Shastri Nagar to witness the situation, it was noticed that in the morning and afternoon, most of the parents and students were crossing the tracks with impunity. No official of the Railways Department or the GRP is keeping a check on the situation. In the morning, parents park their vehicles along the railway tracks on the Model Gram side. After crossing the tracks, they walk towards the schools in Shastri Nagar. After dropping their wards, they again cross the tracks to reach their vehicles. The situation is the same during afternoon when the parents come to pick their wards from the schools. Though in most of the cases parents accompany their wards while crossing the tracks and they may be taking due precautions, Khanna SSP conducts late-night surprise checks at police stations visiting police stations during night hours and ensure justice to all without any bias and prejudices. “I want zero tolerance against any kind of crime and illegal activities in the jurisdiction of police stations. People involved in drug smuggling should not be spared and strict action should be taken against them. Even the police should prepare details of properties of smugglers amassed through means of drug trade. The police should also not connive with any criminal, rather they should discharge their duties with utmost honesty and dedication. It is illegal to cross the tracks and we might putting our lives in danger but we stay alert while crossing the tracks to avoid any untoward incident,” a woman said when she was asked about the reason of opting for the risky way. Another parent, who came to pick his son from his school, said students who were crossing the tracks under the supervision of their parents might not be having any risk to their lives but those children who cross the tracks alone or with their bicycles are definitely putting their lives at risk. Even the construction machinery and material lying near the tracks along with vehicles engaged in the construction work also pose a threat to the commuters. In the first incident, the police registered a case against a youth, identified as Murari, a resident of the Jassian road area. The suspect had raped a 16year-old girl. The complainant, the victim’s mother, told the police that on June 20, her daughter left home without informing anybody. They searched for her at various places in the city but in vain. The victim’s mother said on June 26 her daughter returned home. Ludhiana, July 24 With an aim to ensuring cleanliness in various wards of the constituency, Ludhiana North MLA Madan Lal Bagga conducted a meeting with Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Sandeep Rishi and other officials of the health branch and the O&M cell at the MC Zone A office here on Wednesday. During the meeting, he held discussions with the officials and directed them to fill vacant posts of sweeper in various wards of the constituency, so that the sanitation work was not affected. He said no laxity would be tolerated in this context and officials would be held responsible, if there was any complaint regarding lack of sanitation. The officials were also told to ensure proper working of static compactor sites so that garbage should not be dumped in the open. They were also told to ensure no dumping of garbage in the Buddha Nullah and awareness drives should also be conducted in areas falling under the vicinity of the nullah. Regular cleaning of sewer lines was also stressed to avoid waterlogging during the rainy season. As per reports, the officials also conducted raids at units operating in the Gandhi Nagar market and Mannat Singh Colony where huge stocks of fake branded clothes were seized. The police had arrested a shopkeeper in Jodhpur in this regard who had stated that he got the entire stock from Ludhiana, following which raids were conducted in the city. The woman could not lodge a police complaint for long due to threats made by the suspect. The youth, Davinder Singh, of Baddowal village was nabbed by the police. The victim told the police that about three years ago, she had gone to attend a function at her maternal grandparents’ house in Cheema village. The youth was also a frequent visitor to the house. The complainant said one day, the suspect took her to his home in Baddowal village on the pretext that he needed to talk to her. After she reached the place, Davinder forcibly developed physical relationship with her. When she protested his move, he threatened to kill her along with her family members. Following which, she got scared and remained silent. She alleged that taking the advantage of the situation, he took her to different places and kept raping her. Now, the suspect started harassing her more, after which she lodged a complaint against him and yesterday, the Rakha police registered a case in this regard.
