The accused had been identified as Deepak Kumar of Patti in Taran Tarn. Resham Singh of Sunner Kalan village had complained to the police that he was going to his fields on his tractor to bring paddy seedlings on July 8 around 7 am when a bike-borne accused waylaid and fired at him and the gunshot pierced his left thigh. While 10 patients were treated in the OPD, seven were admitted to the Civil Hospital. The health authorities said three more patients tested positive for cholera, increasing the total number of affected patients to six. Dr Surinderpal Kaur, Civil Surgeon, said, “The patients were from Sunder Nagar and Bakar Khana. The patients were already taken treatment and discharged from hospital.” The health authorities have also sealed a chemist shop for giving medicines to patients without any prescriptions. Medical teams have been going house to house in these localities and asking patients not to take medicines from chemists directly. The Civil Surgeon said besides water samples, food samples were being taken as cholera and diarrhoea were known to spread both through water and food. Munish Sharma, a resident of Mathura in UP and presently residing at Talwann-Poadhrra Road, complained to the police stating that he works as a lining executive for a contractor of MKC Infrastructure and was going to attend duty on July 20 when he learned that some persons had stopped construction work in between Fateh Pur-Rame Wal villages and reached the spot. Puneet Sood, alias Gandhi, was arrested a few days ago after the police intercepted his vehicle in the Bashirpura area and discovered the illegal money. Sood confessed to his involvement in the hawala operation, disclosing that the money was brought from Delhi. Sood was previously caught with Rs 10 crore in hawala money, too. According to the police, Sonu, alias Reena, of Abadpura, filed a complaint of her sister Neetu’s death. Neetu was married to Gurcharan Singh Khaira, alias Minta, of Bhawanipur, Kapurthala district, but had been living in a rented house owned by Gurdeep Singh at FCI Colony, Jalandhar, for the past 12-13 years. While Gurcharan Singh had returned to his village Bhawanipur about three years ago, Neetu was living alone in Jalandhar. “Neetu’s stepbrother Vinay, alias Gaggi, who resides in Basti Gujan, Jalandhar, would occasionally visit her. On the morning of July 23 around 10 am, Gurdeep Singh called Sonu informing her that his sister Neetu had been assaulted by Vinay and had succumbed to her injuries in a hospital”, police officials said. They said Gurdeep had rushed Neetu to the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, where she had told him that Vinay had hit a wooden stick on her head. Neetu was then stabbed in the back by Vinay, the police said. Neetu succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. The police had registered a case. On Monday, the police apprehended Vinay from near the bus stand in Jalandhar. The wooden stick used in the assault had also been recovered. The operation, conducted by STF officers, led to the seizure of 353 gram of heroin with an estimated international market value of about Rs 2 crore. Phagwara, July 30 A pall of gloom descended during the cremation of local resident Dev Raj (42) today. He was killed in a major accident near Dharampur on the Chandigarh-Shimla road yesterday. His last rites were attended by hundreds at a crematorium on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road this evening. Dev Raj was killed on the spot while his son Bhanu and sister-in-law Rubi sustained injuries after shooting stones hit a Bolero Camper vehicle near Dharampur in the wee hours on Monday. Dev Raj was returning from Shimla after meeting his in-laws. The front portion of the vehicle was damaged as heavy boulders rained down on it.
