PB 13 BA 0978), driven by Rinku, hit his motorcycle, following which the victim sustained injuries. During treatment at the Civil Hospital, Gurmit succumbed to his injuries. A case under various sections of the BNS has been registered against Rinku, who is absconding. — TNS 2 minor girls go missing Ludhiana, August 29 In two incidents, two minor girls went missing. In the first incident, Rakesh Kumar of Bhagat Singh Nagar complained that his 15-year-old daughter left home on August 25 but did not return since then. The complainant alleged that Robin of Guru Amardas Nagar Mohalla, had allegedly lured and abducted his daughter on the pretext of marriage. The police have arrested the suspect and were continued on page 2 Downpour leaves many Drug smuggler’s assets freezed areas waterlogged in city Residents get relief from heat, commuters face tough times Manav Mander Tribune News Service Ludhiana, August 29 The city today received 40.4 mm of rainfall which provided a relief to residents from the scorching heat but at the same time, also resulted in waterlogging in many areas. The maximum temperature recorded today was 26°C while the minimum was 23.8°C. According to the Department of Climate Change and Agricultural Meteorology, the weather is expected to remain cloudy with the possibility of light rainfall over Ludhiana and its adjoining areas during the next 24 hours. The rain started around 4 this morning and it continued throughout the day. “Finally getting a feel of the monsoon season. The weather is cool and a hot cuppa on the rainy day made my day today,” said Shruti, a city resident. Meanwhile, the downpour also led to waterlogging in many parts of the city. Ferozepur Road, Aggar Nagar, Chandigarh Road and Sarabha Nagar were among spots which experienced waterlogging today. HIMANSHU MAHAJAN 35-yr-old biker dies in mishap Ludhiana, August 29 In the ongoing drive against drug smugglers, the Commissionerate Police, Ludhiana, has freezed immovable/movable assets worth around Rs 2.3 crore of a Ludhiana-based smuggler. The suspect, Mangat Singh, is a resident of Hambran village in Ludhiana. Parking continued on page 2 c m y b Ludhiana, August 29 Aiming to expedite development works, Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Sandeep Rishi conducted review meetings with the officials concerned of different branches of the civic body at the MC’s Zone D office here on Thursday. The meetings were held with officials of the B&R branch, O&M cell, health branch, building branch and others and necessary directions were issued to them to expedite the development works. MC Additional Commission- er Paramdeep Singh, Joint Commissioner Inderpal, Joint Commissioner Chetan Bangar, Assistant Commissioner Neeraj Jain, Superintending Engineer (SE) Sanjay Kanwar, SE Parveen Singla, SE Ravinder Garg, SE Ranjit Singh, Executive Engineers Ranbir Singh, Ekjot Singh, Surinder Singh, Assistant Town Planners (ATPs) among others attended the meetings. The civic body chief directed the officials of B&R branch and O&M cell to expedite the pending works and ensure quality of the same. He also reviewed ongoing projects to reduce pollution in the Buddha Nullah. The health branch officials had been directed to ensure regular lifting of segregated dry and wet waste. Directions have also been issued to ensure proper working of static compactors. Meanwhile, the building branch officials, including the Municipal Town Planners (MTPs) and ATPs were directed to take strict action against illegal buildings and expedite recovery of challans issued against compoundable building violations in the past. — TNS
