Sources said AAP was interested in contesting Kalayat, Pehowa, Guhla (SC) and Jind seats, and a couple of other urban constituencies. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for Haryana’s 10 segments, the Congress had given AAP the Kurukshetra seat. Dr Sushil Gupta of AAP however, lost , to BJP’s Naveen Jindal by a margin of 29,021 votes, with AAP securing 3.94 per cent of the vote share. AAP led in four of the nine Assembly seats under the Kurukshetra parliamentary constituency: Kalayat and Guhla (SC) in Kaithal district, and Pehowa and Shahbad (SC) in Kurukshetra. Ruing that it did not happen, Sircar said whatever continued on page 8 New Delhi, September 8 National Security Adviser Ajit Doval will be travelling to Russia this week against the backdrop of calls for India’s possible role in finding a solution to the Ukraine conflict following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to Moscow and Kyiv. Doval is visiting Moscow on September 10-11 primarily to attend a conclave of national security advisers of the BRICS (Brazil-Russia-IndiaChina-South Africa) grouping that is taking place amid a renewed push for peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv to end the conflict. The NSA’s visit to Russia comes after Prime Minister Modi’s highprofile trip to Moscow and Kyiv in July and August, respectively. PM Modi is also scheduled to go to Kazan, Russia, in October for the BRICS top leaders’ summit. Doval is expected to lay the groundwork for further mediation to end the conflict. India would wait for a signal from both Russia and Ukraine in this connection, sources said. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in an interaction with Indian media in Kyiv on August 23, had said he wanted India to be on its side and “not just balance ties between Moscow and Ukraine”. Singh is learnt to have asked the Centre not to yield to Kuki-Zo groups’ demand for a separate administration. The CM also sought control of the Unified Command — currently handled by a team of Home Ministry officials, the state security adviser and the Army — overseeing security operations in the state and called upon the Centre to initiate steps for peace. Manipur has been rocked by a cycle of violence following ethnic clashes in May last year. The meeting comes amid speculation of a rift within the BJP and a demand for a change in the leadership. The CM had called on the Governor on Saturday evening after holding a meeting with MLAs of the ruling coalition. The meeting was held after seven persons were killed on September 7 amid reports of extremists using drones and rockets. The list of demands includes abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Kuki insurgent groups.
