His body was found in the sugarcane fields at Lidhana Jhikka village in Banga. The police have arrested three accused and recovered sharp-edged weapon, two motorcycles and three mobile phones that were used in committing the crime. TNS TWO ARRESTED FOR CUTTING TREE Phagwara: The Phagwara police have arrested two persons on the charge of cutting a tree on the plot of Jaswinder Singh of Sukhchain Nagar, Phagwara. SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the accused were identified as Rajiv Kumar and his brother Sanjeev Kumar of Jain Mohalla, Phagwara. The police have recovered a datar and a wood cutter from them. OC MAN HELD FOR BIKE THEFT Phagwara: On the complaint of Anil Kumar of Hadiabad and technician in Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, the police have arrested a vehicle thief and recovered a stolen motorcycle (PB-36F-8499). The accused was identified as Balwinder Ram of village Samraddi near Phillaur. The accused has reportedly confessed to stealing the bike of the complainant from the parking of the LPU. OC MAN BOOKED FOR SCOOTER THEFT Phagwara: The Shahkot police have booked an unidentified person for stealing a scooter. Sanjiv Kumar, a resident of Mohalla Bawiayan, Shahkot, complained to the police that an accused stole his scooter from his house on August 11 night. Investigating Officer Balvir Chand said a case under section 303 (2) of the BNS has been registered against the unidentified accused. The Civil Hospital, Jalandhar and Phagwara also wore a deserted look in view of the strike. Medical services in the Phagwara Civil Hospital came to a halt for three hours today as doctors, under the banner of the Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA), staged a protest from 8 am to 11 am. While emergency services were maintained, regular OPD services remained suspended, leaving patients to face inconvenience. The strike, led by prominent doctors, including Dr Ravi Kumar, Dr Darshan Badhan, Dr Gurinder Deep Singh Garewal and Dr Baljinder Singh, was part of a larger statewide protest. The key demands of the doctors include timely promotion, the release of pending dues under the Sixth Pay Commission and improved security in healthcare facilities. The doctors expressed concerns over the increasing workload, citing that many government hospitals were operating at half of their required capacity, with over BJP president Sunil Jakhar, along with other leaders, talks to Civil Surgeon in Jalandhar. Addressing the media, Dr Baljinder Singh, a senior medical officer, explained that the strike was initially planned for an indefinite period but was scaled back after the Health Minister’s appeal and the scheduling of a meeting between the association and the state’s Finance Minister on September 11. “We have diluted our protest, but if the meeting on September 11 fails to yield results, we will escalate to a full-scale strike, starting September 12,” he said. During the strike, doctors refrained from conducting routine medical check-ups, post-mortems, medico-legal cases and other non-essential duties. However, emergency services and dengue-related testing continued uninterrupted. The doctors are demanding parity with their counterparts in the medical education and research departments, where promotions are granted every four to seven years. They also highlighted the safety concerns, pointing out the rising incidents of violence against healthcare workers by patients’ families. “The state health infrastructure is struggling under the weight of staffing short- ages and doctors are left to manage VIP and emergency duties in addition to their regular responsibilities,” said Dr Ravi Kumar. “If our demands are not met, the impact on healthcare delivery could be severe,” he said. Patients who arrived for routine check-ups and treatments were left frustrated by the strike with many being forced to return without receiving care. The government has so far remained non-committal and the situation remains tense as the doctors prepare for their next course of action, depending on the outcome of their negotiations with the state on September 11. Jalandhar, September 9 A 24-year-old Jalandhar youth has been arrested after the parents of a 22-year-old girl alleged illegal confinement and rape of their daughter by him. The girl, who had been missing since September 3, was traced to Delhi on the evening of September 4 and brought back on September 6. An FIR for alleged illegal confinement and rape was registered against the youth on September 7. While the police await a medical report to confirm rape, a medical committee has been formed to investigate the matter. The police maintain that 3 ‘snatchers’ who dragged , girl for mobile phone, held Jalandhar, September 9 The Commissionerate Police has arrested three persons involved in a brutal mobile snatching incident in which an 18-year-old girl was dragged along the road here. The accused were presented at a press conference here today, each seen with fractured legs, suggesting that the police may have taught them a harsh lesson for the pain they caused to the young victim. CP Swapan Sharma said the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when Lakshmi along with her sister were returning home from work. The three men on a motorcycle stopped outside her house and attempted to snatch her mobile phone. “In an effort to stop them, Lakshmi grabbed one of the men, but the motorcyclists dragged her for a considerable distance, leaving her with multiple injuries”, he said. CP Sharma said following an investigation, the police registered an FIR under Section 304, 3(5), BNS at Police Station Division Number 6. The accused were identified as Pawanpreet Singh, alias Bagga, from Latifpura, Gagandeep Singh, alias Gagan, from Ekta Vihar and Lovepreet Singh, alias Love, from Urban Estate Phase II. All three were subsequently arrested and the motorcycle used during the crime. — TNS Jalandhar, September 9 The Railway Police Force (RPF) has seized gold valued at approximately Rs 1.30 crore from a person at Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station. The seizure occurred today when RPF officers intercepted a person, who was unable to provide document of the gold. The weight of the seized gold is around 2.90 kg. The person could not provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source of gold. The mixing of sewage with drinking water is likely to be the reason for the outbreak of the disease. Their condition was now stable and 13 patients have been sent home after giving medicine from OPD. A medical camp was organised in Bhim Nagar on Monday where patients suffering from diarrhoea were examined and given medicine and ORS. Three teams, headed by Civil Surgeon, were formed by the Health Depart- ment with a total of 21 members, including multipurpose health workers and volunteers, to conduct door-to-door survey and distribute chlorine tablets and ORS. Samples were taken by the health teams. Awareness pamphlets were distributed by the media wing team of the Civil Surgeon’s office in collaboration with ASHA workers. Civil Surgeon Dr Pawan Kumar said the problem of leakage in sewer pipes at Bhim Nagar had been fixed. He said DC Komal Mittal called a meeting of the senior officials of the Health Department and the MC and issued instructions to them regarding the treatment of patients and to MC officials regarding alternative supply of water. The boy has been arrested.” BJP state president Sunil Jakhar, who visited the hopistal and met the girl’s mother today, said, “We are awaiting the completion of formal investigation in the case.” Stray cattle kill 27-yr-old man Jalandhar, September 9 A 27-year-old man died after being struck by stray cattle in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony, Maqsudan, late last night. The deceased Jaswinder Singh was a resident of Mohalla Shri Guru Ravidas Nagar on Jinda Road, here. The incident happened around 10 pm when Jaswinder left his home on his scooter to buy milk. As he approached a petrol pump near Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony, stray cattle suddenly crossed his path and he lost control and fell off his scooter, suffering critical injuries. He was rushed him to a hospital, where he was treated for severe wounds in his stomach and leg, possibly caused by the cattle horns. Large potholes dot the road, turning it into a hazardous stretch, especially during the rains, leaving residents frustrated and demanding immediate action. This vital road connects the bus stand on the one side and Jalandhar Cantt on the other, serving as one of the busiest routes in the city. It caters to heavy traffic throughout the day, with numerous schools, shops and a gurdwara situated along its path. Residents recalled that the road saw temporary repairs during the 2022 Assembly elections, offering brief relief, but since then, it has fallen back into disrepair. “Commuting on this stretch is a nightmare during rain. Potholes turn into puddles and the accumulation of water makes driving hazardous. We risk our lives everyday,” said Kamlesh Sharma, a regular commuter. Locals have repeatedly raised concerns about the condition of the road, sharing stories of near-miss accidents and health issues caused by the dust from the broken surface. Yet, despite their complaints, no permanent solution has been provided by the municipal authorities. Jalandhar, September 9 Panic gripped Gujral Nagar here late last night after shots were fired at the residence of advocate Gurmohar Singh. The attackers, believed to be linked to a property dispute involving an NRI case, fled the scene after firing two rounds at the lawyer’s main gate. The police from Division Number-4 have registered a case against six persons, including a retired judge and retired tehsildar, and started investigation into the incident. According to Gurmohar Singh, the attack is connected to a long-standing property dispute between his client Property dispute the likely reason Amarpreet Singh Aulakh, a Canadian resident, and NRI Balraj Pal Singh Dosanjh. He revealed that he had been representing Aulakh in the case for the past three months and received death threats a month ago, warning him to drop the case. He also disclosed that after the attack, the assailants sent him a video showing them firing at his house and threatening further violence if he continued to represent his client. “The CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed and two bullet shells have been recovered from the scene. We are analysing call data from the vicinity to trace the shooters”, said SHO Hardev Singh, while confirming that FIR had been registered against six persons under relevant sections of the BNS. He said nothing could be revealed at this juncture as investigation was underway and both side of the story was being closely watched. Meanwhile, former MLA Rajindra Beri, who visited the scene last night, condemned the attack and expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the city. He urged the police to take swift action and arrest those responsible.
