The raids were conducted after the police got complaints that the centres were not following instructions issued by the Police Commissionerate regarding managing their affairs. As per information, raids were conducted at Red Coler Spa, Quality Spa Centre and Medanta Spa Centre, located in Sector 32 of the Chandigarh road. Their managers Gopal, Ravi Kumar and Manoj Kumar were arrested by the police. Police officials said the spa centres forced boys and girls into illegal trade, which was against the law. The police would continue to keep a tab over the centres to ensure that no illegal activity should take place. A city resident and activist, Kapil Arora, has filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner, Municipal Commissioner and PPCB Chief Engineer in this regard. “It has been eight years since the notification of ban on single-use plastics was issued but the same can be seen dumped everywhere in the vegetable market, which clearly construes that officials of the Punjab Mandi Board are not serious about the environment as well as the norms,” said Kapil Dev in the complaint submitted. The victim, a resident of NRI Colony, had moved to California in 2019 to pursue a better life. He was working as a driver of a heavy vehicle. On Wednesday, Baljot was driving to Wyoming Rawlins Road to transport goods when he lost control over the vehicle which overturned, injuring him badly. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The news devastated his family, particularly his parents, Naginder Singh and his wife, who had pinned their hopes on Baljot’s future. Relatives and friends rushed to console the grieving family. His sister was staying in Australia. The family had been planning his marriage but their dreams were shattered by the tragedy. Baljot had celebrated his birthday on September 15, unaware it would be his last. Ludhiana, September 19 The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has apprehended Anurag Batra, distributor of a firm, Batra Pharmaceuticals, who was an accomplice of Rakesh Kumar Singla, a proclaimed offender (PO) and former deputy director, Food and Civil Supplies Department, Punjab, for converting the latter’s ill-gotten money into white. He has been sent to one-day police remand by a Ludhiana court today. Batra failed to submit plausible explanation as to what kind of help was rendered by Rachna Singla for getting five orders from the Haryana Government. It has also been revealed by Batra during investigation that on those days when the money was transferred, she was abroad. The spokesperson revealed that Batra had confessed that one of his friends had asked him to convert black money of Singla into white. Further investigation was under progress, he said.
