Pradeep Kumar of Arjun Dev Nagar, was arrested by the police near Shingar Cinema Road when the police were patrolling in the area. On seeing the police, he tried to flee the spot. The police frisked him and seized 225 gm of heroin. Later, they conducted a raid at his house and seized 65 gm of heroin, one Honda Activa scooter, one mobile phone and Rs 700. A case has been registered. In the other incident, 265 gm of heroin was seized from Jagmohan Singh. He tried to run away when the police were patrolling near Gills Garden Resort. The suspension letter has been issued by Paramjit Singh, Director, School Education (Secondary), Punjab . The woman was admitted to the DMCH in a critical state. She has been identified as 53-year-old Anjali Kaushal. The suspect, Varinder Kaushal, was reportedly under the influence of liquor. He used to fight with his wife. The family had a gas agency but it facing losses due to which the man was under depression. Their daughter stays in Canada. On Wednesday, Anjali went to her parent’s house. She returned around 12 midnight and called her parents and told them that the suspect was abusing and beating her. When her brother reached the place, Varinder fired shots at Anjali with his licensed weapon. After firing, he fled the scene while her brother rushed Anjali to the Civil Hospital from where she was referred to a Chandigarh hospital. But he took her to the DMCH, Ludhiana. A tender has also been floated for the same and mapping is being carried out on the directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). A tree census has also been ordered by a joint committee, which was formed to check encroachments over green belts. New tree plantation under threat from cattle, say environmentalists Tribune News Service Ludhiana, September 26 The new tree plantation was under threat from cattle in the state, environmentalists have said. Col Jasjit Gill (retd), who leads a group working for the protection of the environment, has highlighted the problem and has suggested solution in a representation to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. “As the state is short on the green cover, government departments, civil society and NGOs have come together to plant lakhs of trees this season,” they mentioned. Colonel Gill, who is a former member of the state task force on the Buddha Dariya Rejuvenation project, said since the survival of young saplings was important for increasing the green cover, most of Colonel Gill-led group highlights problem, suggests solution to CM these fall prey to the cattle grazing in plantation areas in the absence of fences or tree guards. “The efforts of the government to increase the green cover have been under constant threat from the grazing cattle herds across the state,” the environmentalists said while detailing that the large herds majorly do three types of damage to the saplings and young plants — they eat the saplings directly, eat saplings being part of grasscovered pits all around and thirdly, trample over the saplings and destroy them. They stated that these uncontrolled large cattle herds also cause colossal soil erosion of the canal network’s earthen banks by entering the canal daily in large numbers. Ludhiana, September 26 The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has again imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the Municipal Corporation (MC), Ludhiana, as it failed to show the approved layout plan before the tribunal to show the status of land in a case related to encroachments on green belt areas. Earlier also, the MC has been fined Rs 1 lakh in this regard but it has failed to show the status of two locations in the master plan. The report submitted by the joint committee did not have details of the master plan.
