They were returning from Amritsar after paying obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib. After initial treatment at the Civil Hospital, they were transferred to Ludhiana, where Rajwinder's condition is reported to be critical. The car was speeding when it collided with the truck. The truck driver fled the scene. OC PANCHAYAT ELECTED UNANIMOUSLY Phagwara:: In a display of unity, residents of Sikri village unanimously elected the new panchayat. Addressing a gathering, Bharti Kisan Mazdoor Union Punjab's vicepresident Amrik Singh Sikri said the panchayat was chosen to ensure the development of the village. Mamta was elected as the sarpanch, while Kulwinder Singh, Harjinder Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Kamla Kaur and Parminder Kaur were unanimously elected panchayat members. OC TWO BOOKED FOR DUPING Hoshiarpur: The Model Town police have registered a case against a man and his sister for allegedly cheating Rs 3 lakh in the pretext of sending a youth abroad. According to information, Rajinder Singh, a resident of Kotla Nodh Singh village, told the police that Talwinder Kaur, a resident of Basant Vihar, Hoshiarpur, along with her brother Arjun Singh, allegedly cheated him of Rs 3 lakh on the pretext of sending his son Harkabal Singh to the UK. OC MIGRANT'S BIKE, PHONE SNATCHED Phagwara: The police have booked three miscreants on the charge of snatching a migrant's motorcycle and mobile phone. Jai Kishan Mehta of Bihar and presently living at Koharr Kalan village complained to the police that he was returning home on September 21 night when three motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched his motorcycle and a phone near Meaney Wal Arariyeen village. OC 2 BOOKED FOR KIDNAPPING Phagwara: The police have booked a youth and his father on the charge of kidnapping a minor. The accused had been identified as Parmindar Singh of Baupur village and his father Amarjit Singh. Gurcharan Singh of the same village complained to the police that the accused kidnapped his minor daughter on September 26 on the pretext of marriage. A case has been registered. OC MAN ARRESTED WITH HEROIN Hoshiarpur: The police arrested a man for smuggling during a naka in the area and seized 26 gram of heroin and drug money of Rs 20,000 from him. The accused has been identified as Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Langeri Road, Mahilpur. A case has been registered against him. OC Inter-state fake degree racket busted, 2 held Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 29 The Jalandhar Police Commissionerate has busted an inter-state racket involved in the production and distribution of fake degrees. Led by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, the operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of 196 counterfeit degrees, along with stamps, passports and equipment used in the forgery. The arrested individuals have been identified as Pushkar Goel, a resident of Green Park, Jalandhar, originally from Kapurthala, and Varinder Kumar from Mota Singh Nagar here. ADCP-2 Aditya, during a press conference, said acting on a tip-off about the gang’s operations in the city, the police raided multiple locations and seized a large cache of materials, including 53 stamps, 16 passports, six laptops, three printers, a stampmaking machine and eight mobile phones. He said the fake degrees recovered from the accused spanned various disciplines, including engineering, medical and management fields. “These were allegedly sold to students and professionals across several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. We are now investigating who purchased these degrees and the extent of the gang’s operations, including the involvement of any educational institutions and middlemen”, he added. He further said the seized materials had been sent to forensic teams for further analysis to determine the scale of the forgery and track down other involved parties. “We suspect the gang operated a sophisticated network, selling fake degrees to individuals seeking to bypass legitimate academic qualifi- cations”, Aditya said. An FIR has been lodged at Police Station Sadar, Jalandhar, under various sections of the BNS. He emphasised that this is a serious case with far-reaching consequences and they are delving into the modus operandi of the gang, including how the degrees were fabricated and distributed. He also confirmed that two cases are already pending against the prime accused Pushkar Goel while further arrests are likely as the probe deepens. Hoshiarpur, September 29 Parliament has inducted Dr Rajkumar Chabbewal in the Coal, Mines and Steel Parliamentary Committee. In a press note issued from the office of Dr Chabbewal, the spokesperson said this committee plays an important role in shaping the future of the mining and steel industry. The committee monitors the policies related to coal and steel and their implementation, which directly benefits India’s industries and economy. The committee will be headed by Anurag Thakur, who has been appointed as its chairman. Dr Chabbewal’s inclusion in this committee is being considered an important step for Punjab. According to police officials, they were alerted following a snatching incident on August 28, where a victim’s wrist was broken with a datar (a sharp weapon) during an attack at Maqsudan Chowk. The two accused involved in the case, Varun and Binni, were recent- ly arrested. The investigation continued, leading to the arrest of the third suspect, Ankit, residing in Basti Danishmandan, Jalandhar. With Ankit’s arrest, the police were able to link the trio to 13 other snatching incidents across different areas of Jalandhar. Commissioner Swapan Sharma revealed that the police had recovered 13 mobile phones, a scooter and a datar used in the crime. He said the arrest of three persons was a step towards curbing snatching incidents in the city. Youth missing in Russia, brother Karate coach Vij honoured appeals to PM for his return Aakanksha N Bhardwaj Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 29 A distressed and depressed Goraya youth Jagdeep Kumar, whose brother Mandeep Kumar is stuck in the Russian warzone, released an emotional video today in which he shared his fear related to his brother. Jagdeep shared the video on social media, making an appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the return of his brother with whom there had been no contact for the last seven months. “My brother is one of the 16 men who are reportedly missing in Russia. We are losing hope,” he told The Tribune. He claimed in his video that Mandeep Kumar the body of Sunil Yadav, a man from UP who was also in Russia, reached his native village a few days ago. “Look at the situation, he must have gone there to earn for his family and his family could have never imagined that he would return in such a state. I request our government to actively do something in this matter so that no other family suffers,” he states in his video. Jagdeep had met MP Balbir Singh Seechewal and raised the issue with him. “I told him that he had no contact with Mandeep for the last several months. It is getting difficult for us with each passing day,” he said. Jagdeep was allegedly duped of Rs 6 lakh on the pretext of legally sending his brother from Armenia to Italy via Russia, Finland and Germany. The police had lodged an FIR against eight travel agents in July and arrested one. A 45-year-old suspect arrested from Dasuya was not a registered travel agent. Internationally renowned karate instructor and referee Sensei Jagmohan Vij represented India in the K2 WKF World Youth League held in Cancun city of Mexico. Around 985 players from 80 countries participated in the World Youth League organised under the aegis of the World Karate Federation. They had stolen Rs 20,000, two gold sets, 6 rings, earrings, silver ornaments, 1 gold watch, and a silver necklace.
