The police arrested Netra Singh of Khushi Paddi and recovered 1 kg of opium from him. In the second incident, the police arrested Rekha Rani, a resident of BDO Colony, and seized 30 gm of intoxicating powder from her. In the third incident, the Garhdiwala police recovered 26,250 ml of liquor hidden in fields near Argowal village. In the fourth incident Dasuya police arrested Ravi Kumar, a resident of Dhanoa Pattan village, and recovered 96 gm of intoxicating powder from him. OC TWO ARRESTED FOR KIDNAPPING Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested two persons on charges of kidnapping and rioting. Station House Officer (SHO) Aman Saini said the suspects were identified as Rakesh Kumar, alias Saabi, and Sukhwindar Pal, of Maulli village. Lakhwindar Kaur, a resident of Mohalla Ravi Dasspura, complained to the police that the suspects and their accomplices attacked her husband at his shop, kidnapped him and threw him on a road after seriously injuring him. She said her husband had an altercation with the wife of Rakesh at his chemist shop where he had gone to buy medicines. The SHO said case was registered against the suspects. OC WOMAN HELD FOR CONSUMING DRUG Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a woman on the charge of consuming heroin. SHO Jai Pal said the woman had been identified as Neetu, a resident of Mohalla Khurampur in Mehatpur town. A lighter, a silver paper and a pipe used for consuming the drug were recovered from her possession. A case under Sections 27, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the suspect, the SHO said. OC TWO NABBED WITH PISTOLS, BULLETS Hoshiarpur: The Chabbewal police have arrested two persons and seized two country-made pistols and four bullets from them. On Thursday, the police received a tip-off that Jaskaranpreet Singh, alias Kannu, of Kukkar Majra and Lovepreet Singh, alias Ladi, of Bhajjal, living abroad, allegedly gave instructions to the two suspects, identified as Imanpreet Singh of Jassowal village and Vinay Kumar of Rampur Bildon village to commit crime on their behalf. The police arrested the duo and recovered pistols and ammunition from them. OC ONE KILLED IN ROAD ACCIDENT Hoshiarpur: One pilgrim died and another was injured in a road accident on the HoshiarpurChintpurni road on Thursday. Manish Kumar, a resident of Ravidas Nagar, told the police that he was returning from Mata Chintpurni with his friend Satinder Kumar of Hoshiarpur. He said when they reached the Punjab border, a truck hit their vehicle. He said his friend Satinder died on the spot while he got injured. The driver fled with the truck after the accident. The police have registered a case in this connection. OC Two killed, 9 injured in Tempo Traveller, tractor-trailer collision Victims were returning from Vaishno Devi in Jammu & Kashmir Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, October 5 Two persons were killed on the spot and nine others were injured in a terrible collision between Tempo Traveller and a timber-laden tractortrailer near Adda BaghpurSataur on the HoshiarpurDasuya road today morning. The condition of three injured was stated to be serious. According to information, bhajan (hym) singer Bhupinder Babbal’s team was returning to Chandigarh on Tempo Traveller (bearing registration No. PB01 C-9968) after jagran/jagrata at Maa Vaishno Devi Temple in Jammu and Kashmir. Around 7 am when they reached near Adda Baghpur-Sataur, their vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer loaded with timber coming from the opposite direction. The accident was so terrible that Tempo Traveller was badly damaged. Giving information, the CP said during the campaign, 13 FIRs were been registered and 528 notices issued for violations. From January 1 till October, 29,214 traffic challans were issued for flouting traffic norms and a fine of Rs 2.46 crore collected from violators. He said the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police had declared 17 roads as “No-tolerance roads” and “One-way roads” in the city to ensure smooth flow of traffic and convenience of the public. Sharma said these no-tolerance toads were divided into Zone1, Zone-2, Zone-3 and Zone-4. Sharma said some roads, including Adda Hoshiarpur, Jail Chowk, Kamal Palace Road and Railway Station Road, were declared one-way from 8 am to 8 pm to improve traffic management, reduce commutation time and check petty crimes in the city. He said the entire system operates under the “Emergency response system”. As a part of the campaign, action was taken against traffic rule violators. He said 13 FIRs were registered at multiple police stations for violating traffic rules. He said 528 notices under Section 144 of the CrPC were issued to individuals illegally occupying roads, including shop owners, street vendors, hotels and shopping malls. Among these, 10,156 nominations were filed for the post of panch, while 3,031 candidates are vying for the post of sarpanch. There are 945 villages in the district. The scrutiny of the nomination papers was conducted on Saturday. The deadline for candidates to withdraw their nominations is October 7 by 3 pm. Polling is scheduled to be held on October 15. One bullet hit main gate of the house. A CCTV camera footage of the incident showed a few youths riding motorcycles in the village who allegedly fired shots at the house. After receiving information about the incident, officials from the Hariana police station reached the spot at night and started investigation. Giving information, Jaspreet, a resident of Kantian village, said he works as a JCB machine operator. He said two days ago, he had a minor dispute with a youth. He alleged that the youth along with 12 other persons came to his village yesterday night around 9 pm and fired four shots at his house out of which one hit the main gate. Jalandhar, October 5 The deadline to submit a detailed report on the ammonia gas leak at Jain Ice Mill has by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Jalandhar-1, has been extended by 15 days. Initially, the report was to be submitted today. Now, it would be submitted on October 20. The gas leak, which occurred on September 21, at the mill near Damoria flyover, resulted in death of 68year-old migrant worker identified as Sheetal Singh. Following the gas leak, Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The SDM was instructed to investigate the cause of the gas leak, identify those responsible and evaluate any lapses in safety protocols or negligence by the factory management. One killed as truck hits bike Garhshankar, October 5 A bike rider died on the spot when a speeding truck hit his vehicle near a petrol pump at Sekhowal village on the Garhshankar-Anandpur Sahib road. Balwinder Singh, a resident of Abipur village, falling under the Nalagarh police station in Solan district, told the police that he and his nephew Jaswinder Singh (23) were going to Garhshankar on their motorcycles for some personal work on Friday. He said Jaswinder was going ahead of him on his bike (bearing registration No. HP12 M-7896). When they reached near a petrol pump on the Garhshankar-Anandpur Sahib road, a speeding truck hit his nephew’s motorcycle and sped away. He said Jaswinder died on the spot.
