The suspects were booked by the Bhikhiwind police. Kulwant Singh in his complaint to the police stated that Lakhwinder Singh Lakha, a resident of Bhikhiwind, and his assistant Rahul Sharma contacted him four years ago and promised to send his son Lakhbir Singh to Hungary. The victim gave Rs 7.5 lakh to the suspects for the purpose. Kulwant said the suspects neither sent his son to Hungary nor were they ready to give him back the amount taken. Joginder Singh, DSP (PBI) , Economics Offences wing, cybercrime branch, investigated the complaint. In the investigation report the suspects Lakhwinder Singh Lakha and Rahul Sharma were declared guilty and booked under Section 420 of the BNS. — OC Canada-based NRI alleges bid to grab ancestral property PK Jaiswar Tribune News Service Amritsar, October 11 Seeking intervention of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, a Canada-based NRI Amandeep Singh has alleged that several persons attempted to grab his ancestral property — a private school running for the past four decades — by manipulating land records. The school is located on Ram Tirath Road here. Two months ago, a group of people broke open the school lock and tried to take possession of the property illegally,” he said. Urvashi said after registration of the FIR when they were getting the land cleared, some cops from local police station came and threatened labourers to leave the place or they would face dire consequences. She alleged that cops were under the influence of the suspects. Jagjit Singh Walia, AIG, NRI wing, Punjab Police, said, “After preliminary probe, a case has been registered against suspects. Miscreants will not be allowed to grab the property.” It is learnt that the suspects involved in the case were notorious land grabbers. “All documents and land records are in our favour. We fear that the suspects would try again to forcibly grab our property,” Urvashi said. Husband stabs woman to death Prime suspect, his father arrested for murder Tribune News Service Amritsar, October 11 At a time when city residents were celebrating Durga Ashtami festival, a married woman was brutally killed by her husband in the posh Greenfield area located on the Majitha road here today. Ritu’s only fault was that she had given birth to a handicapped boy, who did not have one hand, alleged her family. Following complaint by her family, the police booked her husband Vishnu Mahajan, father Avinash Mahajan and brother Dinesh Mahajan on charges of murder. Vinod Kumar, SHO, Sadar police station, said Vishnu and Avinash were arrested while efforts were on to nab Dinesh who was absconding. Ritu was immediately rushed to a hospital by her in-laws family members, but doctors declared her brought dead, the SHO said. She said when they reached hospital, they found that their daughter was stabbed multiple times with a sharp weapon on her neck and other parts of the body. Those arrested were identified as Guni Ram (34) and Rohit Kumar (34), residents of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, now residing at Judge Nagar in Mohkampura. Both the suspects worked as sweet makers in the city. DCP Alam Vijay Singh said the police received a tip-off that the duo were involved in illegal trafficking of pharmaceutical drugs here. Following the information, the CIA staff laid a trap and arrested the suspects with banned drugs. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against the duo. Two of the five suspects held with tablets in custody of the Amritsar police. In the second incident, the Ranjit Avenue police arrested three persons identified as Sujal Smile, a resident of Housing Board Colony, Chanchal, alias Tooti, a resident of Sanjay Gandhi Colony, and Mithu, aka Ghora, a resident of the Fatehgarh Churian road, and recovered 45gm of heroin from them. The complainant said when she reached near Batala Road Tpoint, two youth came on a Truck ferrying diesel meets with accident in Verka Tribune News Service Amritsar, October 11 An oil tanker carrying thousands of litres of diesel met with an accident near a gurdwara in the Verka area here yesterday. The incident occurred when steering of the truck got jammed and the vehicle overturned on one side near the BRTS lane. The incident created panic in the area as huge quantity of diesel started leaking from the truck. No loss of life was reported in the accident. Following information, police teams immediately reached the spot and stopped traffic on the road in order to prevent any mishap. The police recovered 15 cellphones of different brands from their possession. Those arrested were identified as Sikander Singh, Pawandeep Singh and Varinder Singh, all residents of LIG flats, Housing Board Colony, Ranjit Avenue here. The police said the suspects were arrested from Karampura government school with six mobile phones. They were produced in a court and brought on one-day police remand. During interrogation, the police recovered nine more mobile phones on suspects disclosure. Proclaimed offender held After 14 years, the Gate Hakima police have arrested a proclaimed offender wanted in a murder case registered in November 2010. He was identified as Bhupinder Singh, alias Pinda, a resident of Indira Colony, Jhabal Road. Tarn Taran, October 11 Gangsters continue to threaten candidates contesting the panchayat elections. Lakhbir Singh Rataul, leader of the ruling AAP who is contesting , for the post of sarpanch of Mallia Khurd village received a threat call by gangster Satta Naushehra Pannua. The gangster demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from him. In his complaint to the police, Lakhbir stated that on October 8, when he was busy in work at his home Satta Naushehra contacted him through WhatsApp call and demanded Rs 50 lakh ransom. Satta is associate of gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa. Lakhbir said he disconnected the call, but Satta kept on calling him for another halfan-hour. Lakhbir said he did not answer calls. The police registered a case under Section 308 of the BNS on Thursday in this connection. In another incident, Jasbir Singh, a resident of Kot Dharam Chand Kalan village, who is contesting for the post of sarpanch of his village, stated that gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa had warned him against contesting the panchayat elections. Jasbir said as nomination papers of other candidate were rejected by the authorities concerned, he was the only aspirant left in the poll fray and his victory was sure. Jasbir suspected that his opponents might be behind threats given to him by gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa. Landa had threatened Jasbir to kill him in case he failed to withdraw his candidature. ASI Sukhdev Singh of the Chabal police station said a case under Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered against Lakhbir Singh Landa in this connection. — OC
