He was available at his house when the firing occurred. His Innova vehicle (bearing registration no PB10EU-0060) was parked outside his house in South City’s Janpath Enclave. However, the police denied any deliberate attack on the former MLA and said it was an accidental fire, shot from a long-range weapon. The firing reportedly occurred late on Friday night. This morning, the former MLA’s driver noticed the broken glass of the vehicle and raised the alarm. Later, the police were informed. A bullet shell was also found inside the car. Health officials raid shops in city, collect food samples Tribune News Service Ludhiana, October 12 The food safety team of the Health Department today raided a shop selling dairy items on Rahon Road and found 1.5 quintal of paneer, suspected to be adulterated. It was purchased from a vendor from another district this morning. The shopkeeper purchased the paneer for Rs 180 per kg from the vendor. The team has taken samples of paneer and ghee from the shop and destroyed the whole stock of paneer on the spot. The team has also taken eight samples of paneer, ghee, cham cham, cake, ghee, khoya and namkeen. All samples were sent for testing and action will be taken as per reports. The suspects have been identified as Ram Dulare (52), a resident of Makkar Colony, Ranjit Kumar (32), a resident of the Daba road area, and Barjesh Pal, alias Monu (27), a resident of Kanganwal. CIA-2 in-charge Inspector Rajesh Sharma said he, along with the police party, was patrolling in the Dhandari area, when he got a tipoff that the suspects, who were running an illegal lottery racket, had cheated many people on the pretext of doubling their money through gambling. They had been luring the victims by telling them that the lotteries they were selling were approved by the Punjab Government. Sharma said the suspects had even taken a shop on rent on the Sua road from where they were running the racket. During a raid at the shop, the police also recovered Rs 8,200 in cash and some slips used in gambling. A case under the Gambling Act was registered against the trio. A huge rush of people was witnessed at the venue. The Dasehra fairs were organised at Daresi, Upkar Nagar, Aggar Nagar, Sarabha Nagar, Dugri and other areas. “This year, I saw the entire Ramlila and witnessed the Dasehra celebrations in the city. The festival depicts the richness of our cultural heritage. Everyone should take lessons from the festival and draw inspiration from the life of Lord Ram,” said Vikas, a resident of Aggar Nagar. Meanwhile, another trend was observed this year. Some families or residents celebrated Dasehra in private ceremonies in their colonies by burning small effigies of Ravana. Small ready-made effigies of Ravana, which were sold in markets, were in demand in the city this time. Kunal, a shopkeeper from Ghumar Mandi, said miniature Ravana effigies were hit among people this year as many people preferred private celebrations, instead of going to fairs and big gatherings to avoid huge rush. They had been looting people by pointing sharp weapons and a toy pistol at them. The have been identified as Manga Singh, a resident of Jeewan Nagar, Mantu Kumar of Happy Colony, Dev Kumar, a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Colony, Sandeep Kumar, a resident of Focal Point, and Vikas Kumar, alias Nepali, of Jeewan Nagar. The police also recovered three mobile phones, two motorcycles, one Honda Activa scooter, one toy pistol, one sharp weapon and an iron rod. SHO, Focal Point, Gurpreet Singh Handa, in a statement issued stated that a tip-off was received that the suspects had formed a gang of robbers and they had been looting people by pointing sharp weapons and a toy pistol at c m y b the victims. They had even committed several incidents of loot and theft of vehicles in the industrial hub in the past. As per the tip-off, the miscreants had planned to steal cash from ATMs of three banks. Considering the seriousness of information, a police team was formed and a raid was conducted, which led to the arrest of the suspects. Now, the police will seek police remand of the miscreants for further probe.
