The action by the Punjab Police’s NRI Affairs and Cyber Crime wings comes close on the heels of registration of at least 20 FIRs against 25 such illegal travel FIRs lodged in Amritsar, Mohali, Ludhiana, Patiala agencies in August. The tally of booked illegal travel agencies has now reached 43. The Protector of Emigrants, Chandigarh, which comes under the Ministry of External Affairs, had red-flagged the advertising on Instagram and Facebook of jobs in for- eign countries by the unscrupulous travel agencies. A Mumbai court remanded Gurmail in police custody till October 21 and directed the police to conduct a bone ossification test to determine the age of the second arrested shooter, a native of Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh, who claimed he was a minor. The third shooter, Shiv Kumar, also from Bahraich, was on the run, the police said. Gurmail (23) had a prior criminal history, including a murder case against him, and remained in jail for four years, the police said. His family members said they had disowned him 11 years ago and have called for exemplary punishment for his actions. The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the paper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The English edition apart, the 133-year-old Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
